One Direction, abbreviated to 1D, is an English-Irish and the biggest boyband in the world. The group was formed in The X Factor, a British singing competition, in 2010, with band members Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. The boyband rose to prominence after it gained the third position in the X-Factor and released the biggest debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’.
1D has broken several records and eventually bagged the position of the biggest boyband in the world. They were regarded as the teen idols, thus they had a huge female fan base as well as a male fan base, but they are one of the best-selling boybands to date and have won numerous awards in their active years, including seven Brit Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards, and 28 Teen Choice Awards.
Former band member Zayn Malik left the band in March 2015 to pursue a solo career which, no doubt, left the fans all over the world heartbroken and highly devastated. Before Zayn left, the band released four albums. They released a total of five albums till 2015 before the band went on a hiatus in 2016 and the other members also pursued a solo career.
