In the year 1940, Jeffrey Archer was born in Finsbury and shortly moved to Somerset with his family. In the year 1963, Archer was offered a place at the Oxford University Department for Continuing Education to study for a Diploma of Education.
After leaving Oxford, Archer continued as a charity fundraiser and at the age of 29, he was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lincolnshire constituency of Louth. In 1974, Archer was subjected to a fraudulent investment scheme involving a Canadian company called Aquablast. The debacle cost him his first fortune and left him in knee-high debt.
During the autumn of 1974, Archer wrote his first book, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, as a means of avoiding bankruptcy. With this, there was no stopping. In 1979, he went on to author Kane and Abel that proved to be his best-selling work, reaching number one on The New York Times bestsellers list.
