Harry Potter’s journey started with the letter he received from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Albus Dumbledore. He joined Hogwarts, learnt magic and fought brave battles along the way.
Every beautiful journey has a start and an end but it's always the memories that remain. It’s the people who make it worth remembering. For Harry too, I think his friends and his professors were the ones who made beautiful memories.
Given below is a list of the 14 Harry Potter professors who made the Hogwarts journey for Harry Potter worthwhile and left lessons for all the Potterheads out there.
1) Professor Albus Dumbledore
Among all the Harry Potter professors, the magician who added beautiful colours into Harry’s life was Professor Albus Dumbledore. It’s said that we all have hidden talents but it's a teacher who brings them out. A teacher is someone who recognises the student’s worth and makes their student recognize it too.
In Harry Potter’s life, it was certainly Professor Albus Dumbledore. Apart from this, he was also the Headmaster of Hogwarts School, Transfiguration professor and Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Rightly said “With great power comes great responsibility,” it was Professor Dumbledore who made Harry the strongest weapon to fight against Voldemort.
2) Professor Severus Snape
We all know that loyalty has a face. In the Hogwarts School, the most loyal professor was Professor Severus Snape. Not only is he someone who stands by your side in front of everyone and protects you, but also he is also the one who protects you without showing to anyone.
Professor Snape was the one who protected Harry from all the problems so that he could one day become strong enough to fight against the dark. He was the strongest of all Harry Potter professors. His unrequited love for Lily Potter made him do everything for Harry.
Professor Snape was also the potions master, Head of Slytherin house, and professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts.
3) Professor Minerva McGonagall
Among all the Harry Potter professors, she was a strict and straightforward person. She was the Headmistress, Head of Transfiguration and Head of Gryffindor house. Most of the people were scared of her and nobody wanted to mess it up.
She, along with Professor Dumbledore, protected Harry from all the dark forces and taught him to be the strongest wizard of Hogwarts. Nurturing a seed so that it becomes a strong plant one day, same was the case with Professor McGonagall when it came to Harry.
4) Professor Quirinus Quirrell
Next on our list of Harry Potter professors is Professor Quirinus Quirrell. He was the professor of Muggle studies and also the professor of defence against dark arts in Hogwarts. He was one of the antagonist characters in Harry Potter’s life.
He till the end maintained his loyalty with Voldemort and thus tried to kill Harry. But it was his belief that “There is no good or bad, there is only power” that made him go blind by the powers of Voldemort.
5) Professor Rubeus Hagrid
The most trustworthy professor in Harry’s life was Professor Rubeus Hagrid. He was not just a teacher but also a friend who supported him until the end. His role in Hogwarts was that of professor and Keeper of keys and grounds. He was not only the most soft-hearted professor but also the elemental force for Harry Potter.
6) Professor Dolores Umbridge
She was the Headmistress, professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts and Head of the Muggle-born registration commission. She was one of the evil, cruel, strict, despicable and prejudiced Harry Potter professors. Her prejudice against the Muggle-born and all the cruel things she did made her pay for her crimes as she was imprisoned in Azkaban at last.
7) Professor Gilderoy Lockhart
How can’t we talk about him while talking about all Harry Potter professors? Professor Gilderoy Lockhart was also the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor and Seeker in Hogwarts. Belonging to the Ravenclaw house, he was a self-obsessed, egocentric, narcissistic and also a coward person. Rather than actually doing something, he was just after other people’s work.
8) Professor Horace Slughorn
Moving to the next Harry Potter professor we have Professor Horace Slughorn on the list. He was the potions master and Head of Slytherin house. He was a friend of Professor Dumbledore who convinced him to return to the Headmaster’s post.
Also, Professor Horace Slughorn was the one who helped Dumbledore and Harry to find out that it was young Tom Riddle who took the information to achieve immortality. In short, he was a secret companion of Professor Dumbledore and a strong pillar of Hogwarts.
9) Professor Sybill Trelawney
Serving as the Head of the Divination workshop and professor at Hogwarts, Professor Sybill Trelawney was a sweetheart. She belonged to Hufflepuff house and had a gift of second sight. As a teacher, she was true to her subject and appreciated the students who truly deserved it. Totally non-biased!
10) Professor Remus Lupin
Professor Remus Lupin was the professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School and belonged to Gryffindor house. He maintained his loyalty with Harry and protected him from the dark forces. A level-headed, intelligent and compassionate person.
11) Professor Pomona Sprout
Professor Pomona Sprout was the most cheerful, positive and loyal Harry Potter professor at Hogwarts. She belonged to Hufflepuff house and was also one of the most entertaining characters, especially during her herbology class. She planted seeds of hope in everyone’s mind and thereby shaped the students’ future.
12) Professor Filius Flitwick
Professor Filius Flitwick was the Charms Master at Hogwarts and also the Head of Ravenclaw house. He was a gentle person and also the most intelligent wizard in Hogwarts due to his Goblin ancestry. Also, he was a minor but also an important protagonist in Harry Potter’s life.
13) Professor Rolanda Hooch
The Harry Potter professor who was responsible for teaching Flying/Quidditch at Hogwarts was Rolanda Hooch. She was a straight-forward, rather bold and cutthroat professor. Her smart attitude and fair calls were what kept flying games at Hogwarts as fair as possible. She stayed calm and composed all the while.
14) Professor Barty Crouch Junior
Last in the Harry Potter professor list is Professor Barty Crouch Junior, who was a keen observer but also a manipulative person. His loyalty was with Voldemort as he regarded him as a father figure. He was the one who manipulated the Triwizard Tournament and made Harry the champion so that he could be transported to Voldemort.
It requires effort from many people to make a person win a battle. Harry could defeat Voldemort and his evil intentions only because of these professors in his life. Though some were not actually on his side, they also taught him something.
We realise it late in life, when things become clear, that it is not only the person who fought with us who helped us in learning but also the person who fought against us. Thus, Harry Potter’s journey at Hogwarts was worth remembering because of his professors who stood by his side during each phase. They crafted his way to success!
