GATE is actually abbreviated as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. GATE examination is eligible for the students who successfully pursued their Undergraduate courses in engineering and science. The main aim of the GATE examination is to get admission into Postgraduate education. 

The score secured by the students in the GATE Examination will decide their Postgraduate course in the Universities. Based on the score secured by them and based on other factors like caste, rank students are decided in which University they get admission to pursue their Postgraduation.

When it comes to the history of the GATE Examination it is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and the other seven Indian Institute of Technologies which are located at Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai also called as Madras and Mumbai also called as Bombay.

The gate score defines the performance of the students in the GATE Examination for various Postgraduate courses in Master of Engineering, Master of Architecture, Doctor of Philosophy, and many more. 

GATE is one of the most competitive examinations in India. There are different types of disciplines for the GATE Examination. 

There are 27 disciplines a candidate can select for the GATE Examination such as Aerospace engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical, Chemistry, Ecology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Mining Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering Sciences, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Biotechnology, Instrumentation Engineering, Life sciences, and many more courses.

Duration And Examination Of The GATE Exam:

GATE examination is conducted through an online Computer Based Test(CBT) where the candidates are given random questions which are visible on a Computer screen. 

The duration of the examination is three hours. The total number of questions in the GATE examination is 65 and the total number of marks in the GATE Examination is 100 marks. 

There are three sections available in this examination. The questions can be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions also called as MCQs, there are four options available out of which only one option is correct. 

The second type of question is Multiple Select Questions also called as MSQ’s, there are four options available out of which one or more options are correct. 

The final section is in the form of Numerical Answer Type Questions also called as NATs, the answer can be in the form of a negative or positive and real numbers or decimal numbers.

Syllabus Of The GATE Exam:

The syllabus for the GATE Examination will be from the four years of the Undergraduate Course and it also consists of Verbal Ability which includes English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, verbal deduction, and critical reasoning. 

A numerical ability that includes numerical estimation, numerical reasoning, numerical computation, and data interpretation, and technical ability.

Qualifying Marks Of The GATE Exam:

Qualifying marks for the GATE Examination will depend on the Category of the student registered for the GATE. For General category students the qualifying marks out of 100 were 25 or above 25. 

The qualifying marks for the other background classes were 90% of the general category’s qualifying marks. 

The qualifying marks for the Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes are 66.67% of the general category’s qualifying marks.

Gate Registration 2021:

In general, the registration process will be a three-step online process. It begins on September 11 and lasts till the month of October 7. 

Now, we will get to know all the details including the dates of the Examination, fees of the examination, and the application process of the examination.

A candidate can register for the GATE Examination with their applied fee without any late fee. In case if the students haven’t registered for the GATE Examination until October 7 they have to bear a late fee of 500 till October 12.

In addition to this, if the candidate needs to change their details in the application form it will be open from October 28. For every change, they need to pay 500rs. The window will be available until November 13.

GATE Examination will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Bombay. GATE 2021 will be conducted from February 5th to 7th and from February 12th to 13th. 

On the examination day, it is conducted across 200 cities in India and sic cities abroad. The paper will be in 27 disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria To Apply For Gate Exam:

The candidates applying for the GATE Examination must have some basic eligibility criteria which are issued by the eligibility guidelines for GATE Exam 2021.

  • Candidates should be completed their bachelor’s degree in BE/BTECH, BSc, or BArch with 60% to 70% marks in the qualifying marks.
  • Candidates must be in master’s degree in ME/MTECH, MA< MSc, MCA with 60% to 70% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates in the final year can also apply for the GATE Examination.

Registration Process Steps:

STEP-1: Register For Gate Through Online

Visit the official website of GATE and click on the Candidate Registration then enter all the details like name, date of birth, email id, and phone number. 

OTP will be generated to the registered phone number and enter the OTP, it will be verified for the GATE 2021 registration process.

STEP-2: Fill Gate 2021 Application Form:

After successful registration, an enrollment ID will be sent to an Email ID. Candidates can use this enrollment ID and Password to log in. After logging in to the application, candidates have to fill in all the details such as:

  • Personal information
  • Address of communication
  • Academic qualification
  • College details
  • GATE Paper
  • Choice of GATE examination Centre
  • ID proofs

STEP-3: Application Fee:

After filling in all the details,, click on submit and continue to process the fee payment. Candidates have to pay fees from net banking, debit card, or credit card.

For female candidates, it will be 750rs and a late fee of 1250rs. SC/ST/PWD candidates have to pay 750 and a late fee of 1250rs and all other candidates has to pay 1500 and a late fee of 2000rs.
