Raghupati Sahai, known far and wide by the pen name Firaq Gorakhpuri, was a notable writer, critic, and a remarkable Urdu poet of India. He was born on 28th August 1896, in Gorakhpur, a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and from there, his title Gorakhpuri is derived. He also served as a lecturer at Allahabad university in the English department.
Firaq Gorapkhpuri’s role in the Non-Cooperation Movement
It is interesting to know that Firaq Gorakhpuri Sahab, due to his intellect, got selected in both the Provincial Civil Service (PCS) as well as Indian Civil Service (ICS).
However, he resigned from his post during the course of the Non-Cooperation Movement as he always wanted to serve the nation and wished to join GandhiJi in his fight for independence.
