Kulbhushan Jadhav has been a subject of empathy since a long time. However, this 25th December is going to be a great day for him as he would meet his mother and wife, after a long time.
The man held in prison in Pakistan, has been allowed to meet his peers, by the Pakistan Government. The efforts of Foreign Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj convinced them to do so on purely humanitarian grounds.
The Pakistan government issued Visa to the mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav earlier this month, to put a stamp on this decision. Kulbhushan Jadhav met them after 22 months and that too from behind the glass window, under full surveillance.
Indian deputy High Commissioner J P Singh accompanied the family to Islamabad. The meeting started at 2.18 pm and continued for about 40 minutes in the special chamber prepared for the meeting.
A Humanitarian Decision
They have mentioned it clearly that it is a consular access or concession to the punishment of Kulbhushan Jadhav. It doesn't imply that Pakistan will forgive him or release him alive. However, 'the Islamic republic (Pakistan) is the only country who has shown such kindness to a terrorist. Otherwise, they is no example of such mercy found in west or east' , says a Pakistani journalist .
Allegations On Jadhav
For those who don't know, Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested in Baluchistan region of Pakistan when he entered Pakistan from Iran in March 2016. He was alleged of espionage, on the pretext of spying on Pakistan and supplying information to terrorist groups in Iran. The Pakistan court sentenced him to gang until death for his activities, until International Court of Justice instructed them to halt the execution until their final decision.
Case Pending With International Court of Justice
The serving naval officer is accused of orchestrating terrorism in Pakistan on a large scale, by lending support to terrorists and destabilizing Pakistan. Many of us believe that the allegations are false and the confession by Kulbhushan Jadhav was under pressure. Thus, raising the hopes that he might return to India in good health, once is declared innocent by ICJ. The case of Kulbhushan Jadhav is now to be addressed by the International Court of Justice.
Empathy To Jadhav And Family
We can extend our prayers and empathy to Kulbhushan Jadhav's wife and mother, who are in Pakistan to meet him today. What they have endured and are enduring is beyond our imagination.
Although being an officer in the armed forces makes you strong and capable of withstanding distances with family, this type of imprisonment shatters all strength.
He has no assurance of meeting them again any the future, any time sooner or later. While his family is already in tears that the next time they see him might be after the decision of the international court or might be after his death.
Yet, we hope justice justifies itself and truth alone triumphs.
