Barrack Obama is certainly the People's Favourite. It is evident because in just 22 minutes, Barack Obama’s “Merry Christmas” tweet got more likes than the Donald Trump “Merry Christmas” tweet, placed 12 hours ago. Much to our surprise, it was the same picture that he tweeted in 2013, then consecutively for the following years and this year again.
Not just this, people not only poured their love in large numbers, they even started a war on Obama's tweet about who is behind the divide in America - Trump or Obama?
In one of the tweets, a person mentioned that it is religion and race that divides the world. The racism, environmental damage, transphobia, homophobia, Islamophobia, misogyny, wealth gaps, lack of healthcare, and an overall apathy towards other people’s suffering is doing the actual dividing.
The reason for this twitter war is the accusations on Barack Obama for being a part of the Iran ransom scandal. The allegation was made by none other than Charles Krauthammer, who is one of most respected conservative thinkers and political commentators in America.
What Media Thinks
The entire event was like this. A sum of $400 million payment was made by the American Government under the leadership of Barack Obama to Iranian Government. The sum was converted to another currency (Francs), by sending it to Europe first, and then shipped to Iran via the aircraft. Coincidently, just a day after this, four Americans were released from Iranian prisons.
What Actually Happened
While the religious heads and military leaders in Iran are calling this money a ransom, the Obama Government, known for its transparency clarified about the money transfer stating that the $400 million payment was part of a $1.7 billion negotiated settlement, from an aborted arm deal that took place in 1979.
Twitter In Support
While the opponents continued to curse Obama, twitter came up to his support. Another person mentioned that whenever he imagines a President, he images Barack Obama. This was a very respectful thing for a person who is no longer in office and who was least expected to be in power in future.
It turns out that President Barack Obama can make a deal with the most intransigent, hardline, unreasonable, totalitarian people in the world (Iranians) but not with Republicans. Maybe he's not the problem. Maybe it is the divide that resides in their hearts and rules their mind.
A Humble Request
For a person as down to earth and as social as Barack Obama, this is just another day. So, keeping this aside, we have a request to make. Please post different pictures of Christmas so that we know that even you love the festival! We love the one given below from your archives.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
