Upcoming Workplace Trends of 2023

Workplace across the globe is revolving at a significant pace to retain and attract their best human resources. Many large and medium enterprises are implementing advanced office solutions in order to maximize opportunities and minimize the threats that can impact the business. Post-Covid, there has been a massive shift in what employees are expecting from their workspaces and coworking spaces have so far helped the companies to fulfill their hopes.

In this blog, Harsh Binani, the co-founder of Smartworks and founder of Talbot Force has shared his views and thoughts on the upcoming office trends of 2023.

Harsh Binani has played a prominent role in making Smartworks India’s leading managed office spaces platform. Most importantly, his vision and experience have paid the dividend.

5 Upcoming Workplace Trends of 2023

Given below are some of the workplace trends that are predicted by Harsh Binani.

  1. More Demand for Data-Driven Design:

Up until recently, many businesses used facilities in a hit-and-trial method to see what worked best for their operations and personnel. This strategy has been challenged by the epidemic, which has increased demand for an evidence-based approach to office design. In essence, data-driven designs are carried out in such a way that considers worker behavior, such as their activity in the office or coworking space, which is tracked by sensors or other technologies.

  2. Greenwashing Instead of Biophilic Design:

The most successful biophilic designs prioritize sustainability over "green" aesthetics and take into account how each element will affect the environment. The pressure on businesses to do more for the environment is driving them to adopt sustainable methods, at least that's what they believe. Instead of using true biophilic design, some of them are actually practicing greenwashing, which is the deception of sustainability. Even if an office is surrounded by beautiful plants, it may still be contributing to global warming. Connecting people and nature within their built environments is the goal of biophilic design.

  3. More Popularity of Net Zero Buildings:

Net zero buildings have been gaining popularity for some time now. But as the effects of climate change continue to be felt around the world, the number of real estate firms embracing the net zero strategies may increase in 2023. On the other hand, many companies have already switched from traditional to shared or flexible office spaces while many are still looking for the best coworking spaces.

  4. Focus on Multi-Modal Designs:

Considering all the benefits of it, multi-modal design is having a significant impact in the post-pandemic workplace. Deep focus rooms for silent work, "soulful" spaces with cozy and imaginative furnishings and discussion nooks, innovation or event spaces, formal meeting spaces, and community spaces are all examples of this kind of office design.

This layout can promote increased collaboration and interpersonal interactions by assisting in the dismantling of silos. Employees in these spaces don't have to remain at a specific desk or location, allowing for greater movement within the space and increased usage.

  5. A Balance between Hybrid and Remote Working:

Companies are now looking for ways to redesign their office spaces to support both remote and in-person employees after establishing their hybrid workplace policies. Organizations will likely integrate the remote and in-person employee experiences by putting in new, adaptable technology in conference rooms, public spaces, and individual offices.

So, these are some of the upcoming office trends that will transform the face of managed/shared/flexible office and coworking spaces. Harsh Binani truly believes that concepts like hot desking, meeting room management systems, and integrated workplace management systems are going to empower the new trends positively.
