Tmkoc Characters: The Hatti Family

Tired or lonely, with family or alone, if there is one show we loved and still love, it is Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma.

Comedy, fun, and “Masala”, but without the negativity of “Saas, Bahu and Saajis.”

Laughter, enjoyment and refreshment without violence, conspiracies and never ending emotional drama.

A reflection of a multicultural society, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma has been a show loved by audience across all age groups for its simplicity and relentless fun.

It is a show that depicts small, but realistic and important events in a common man’s life.  Interestingly, it is one the few shows that celebrates so many roles together. The roles of a teacher, father, son, daughter, grandparent, friend, and much more.

Bored but not busy, I thought doing a character sketch of these lively characters would not only help me revisit the fun, old days of my teenage, but it would also be a great opportunity to once again cherish a time when everyone in the society was an uncle, aunt, brother or sister.

Like the societies we live in, every character in Tmkoc is unique and interesting in their own aspects.

The Hatti family is one of the most loved families at Tmkoc.

1.       Dr. Hans Raj Hatti

If you ask anyone, especially children if Dr. Hatti is the best character in Tmkoc, most of them would reply- “Saahi Bat Hai.”

My personal favorite, Dr. Hans Raj Hatti is depicted in the show as someone, who loves eating. He is the big guy with a big belly and  big heart.

On one side, we can see Dr. Hatti as a jolly, child-like man who loves doing “Masti” with the kids of Gokuldham. On the other hand, it is also interesting to watch him calling Popatlal “Burbak” whenever Popatlal suggests something silly.

He is a happy father, a loving husband and reminds us that sometimes its fine to take life on a lighter note. Dr. Hatti’s unstoppable laugher and his auto-rickshaw incident are something no Tmkoc fans would ever forget!

2.       Komal Hatti

It is not easy to cook for two foodies, who love eating all the time. But “All is well” when the two are jolly, and the cook is Komal Bhabhi, an understanding and helpful mother and a caring wife.

The show depicts her trying to stop Dr. Hatti from overeating and chasing Goli. There is an interesting episode in the show, where Komal Bhabhi tries on a western dress, which is an inch smaller for her.

She tries everything from not eating to heavy exercises, finally, fainting to hear this from Dr. Hatti – “Sundarta Shaarir Ki Nahi Man Ki Hoti Hai” and “Jeshi Bhi Ho Mujhe Bohot Pasand Ho”.

Komal Bhabhi on many occasion tries to convey a message that “Beauty is about confidence, depends on the eyes of the onlooker and one should not feel inferior because of their size.”

3.       Goli

If there is a character apart from Aiyer, who constantly creates roadblocks between Babitaji and Jethalal, it is the “Golumolu” Goli.

Goli can win any game if the bet is a great treat, and shares a strong bond with his father, Hans Raj Hatti.

The show depicts the beautiful father-son relationship through Goli and Hans Raj Hatti. Both of them love food, fun and share an understanding like friends.

On a funny note, Goli is often seen revealing Jethalal’s secrets, eating his food and creating nuisance for Jetha uncle.  The duo’s relationship is another relationship filled with fun and laughter.
