Tmkoc Characters: The Gada Family

Tired or lonely, with family or alone, if there is one show we loved and still love, it is Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma.
Comedy, fun, and “Masala”, but without the negativity of “Saas, Bahu and Saajis.”
Laughter, enjoyment and refreshment without violence, conspiracies and never ending emotional drama.
A reflection of a multicultural society, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma has been a show loved by audience across all age groups for its simplicity and relentless fun.
It is a show that depicts small, but realistic and important events in a common man’s life. Interestingly, it is one the few shows that celebrates so many roles together. The roles of a teacher, father, son, daughter, grandparent, friend, and much more.
Bored but not busy, I thought doing a character sketch of these lively characters would not only help me revisit the fun, old days of my teenage, but it would also be a great opportunity to once again cherish a time when everyone in the society was an uncle, aunt, brother or sister.
Like the societies we live in, every character in Tmkoc is unique and interesting in their own aspects.
The Gada family members are undoubtedly one of the most fascinating characters in the whole series.
1. Champak Chacha

Champaklal Jayantilal Gada, popularly known as Chachaji is a respected elder or “Vaadil” in the Gokuldham society.
He is the elder-most member of the Gada family, who is looked upon by everyone in the society as someone who holds firm to his values and principles.
Champak Chacha is portrayed as a fatherly figure, who never hesitates to give a “Faatkaar” to Jethalal when necessary.
Interestingly, through Chachaji and Tappu, the show depicts the warmness in a grandfather-grandson relationship.
There is love, respect and understanding between the duo, and it is only Chachaji, who can rein in the “Shararati” Tappu.
Tappu is Dadaji’s apple of the eye, who helps Dadaji get along the city life and fill his life with fun and delight.
The show, in a subtle manner depicts Champak Chacha is an active and a content “Vaadil”, blessed with an obedient son and a loving family.
2. Jethalal

Jethalal Champaklal Gada is the central character of the series, around whose life the whole story revolves. Big or small, troubles are the part and parcel of Jethalal’s life.
The show, in a rather interesting manner, depicts how Jethalal’s life is full of adventures and interesting people.
Tappu never fails to bring complaints to Jethalal, while at home, Bapuji and Daya Bhabhi are always there to add some “spice”.
Bhide, the secretary loves to mock Jethalal’s punctuality, while Bagha and Nattu Kaka’s geniuses never fails to add flavor. And Sundar is always there to make Jethalal’s life “Sundaar.”
Fortunately, there is Babitaji to soothe Jethalal’s heart, “Jaalebi Phaphda” to relieve Jethalal’s tension, and “Fire-Brigade” Metha Saab when everything else fails.
Jethalal is a foodie by heart, who loves to much on delicacies, even if it means getting a few doses of “Churna”.
Jethalal, is an amazing portrayal of a simple family man who finds small joys in good food, hard work, family and friends.
The small, daily troubles of life and its joys in a common man’s life are well depicted through Jethalal’s character.
3. Daya Bhabhi

Daya Bhabhi is a proud daughter of her mother, a caring wife, a wonderful home-maker, a loving mother and sister.
The show depicts her unique nature and the multiple facets of her personality. She is determined as well childish, she loves “Jagaratha” as well as makes effort to learn swimming and new skills.
Daya Bhabhi in a symbolic manner represents millions of house wives, who hold high respect for traditions, while making efforts to modernize and learn new things.
She is a devoted wife. She is there for her brother Sundar when necessary. She pampers Tappu, and makes sure Bapuji is well. She, also, never forgets to call back her mother at Ahmedabad.
The show portrays Daya Bhabhi as an innocent, simple, and caring home-maker, who enjoys adding joy and spice to Jethalal’s life.
4. Tappu

The “NaatKaat”, “Shararati” child prodigy of Gokuldham Society. Tappu is his grandfather Champaklal’s dearest, who loves to spill trouble to two people: his father Jethalal, and his tuition teacher, Atmaram Tukaram Bhide.
Everyone except these too are absolutely fond of him! He leads the “Tappu Sena” in the Gokuldham society and keeps entertaining the audience with his all sorts of “Masti”.
The show portrays Tappu as a naughty, but understanding and empathetic teenager.
He loves to have fun, brings annoyance, but at the same time is considerate that he does not do anything that hurts his beloved grandfather, Champaklal Gada.
He is bold, brave and takes imitative to organize community events while trying to look out for creative solutions to different problems.
Tappu is the kind of naughty, little kid we all once were during our childhood.
We annoyed our parents, broke the window lanes of our neighbors with our cricket balls, and loved doing the “Masti.”
