Tmkoc Characters: Metha and Aiyer Family

Tired or lonely, with family or alone, if there is one show we loved and still love, it is Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma.

Comedy, fun, and “Masala”, but without the negativity of “Saas, Bahu and Saajis.”

Laughter, enjoyment and refreshment without violence, conspiracies and never ending emotional drama.

A reflection of a multicultural society, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma has been a show loved by audience across all age groups for its simplicity and relentless fun.

It is a show that depicts small, but realistic and important events in a common man’s life.  Interestingly, it is one the few shows that celebrates so many roles together. The roles of a teacher, father, son, daughter, grandparent, friend, and much more.

Bored but not busy, I thought doing a character sketch of these lively characters would not only help me revisit the fun, old days of my teenage, but it would also be a great opportunity to once again cherish a time when everyone in the society was an uncle, aunt, brother or sister.

Like the societies we live in, every character in Tmkoc is unique and interesting in their own aspects.

Metha and Aiyer Family are two interesting couple families at Tmkoc.

1.       Metha Family

A.      Tarak Metha

Writer and poet. The wise guy. Jethalal’s Fire brigade. Tarak is the narrator of the show, and one of the central characters of the Tmkoc.

The show depicts him as a calm, composed and creative person, always ready to put off any fire in Jethalal’s life.

Tarak Metha Ka Ooltah Chasma, as the name suggests, in a manner represents the lenses through which Tarak views the world and the Gokuldham society.

He is optimistic, focuses on solutions and promotes harmony and inclusiveness. Through the model of Gokuldham society, Tarak depicts the beauty of a multicultural society, the fun and struggles of a common man’s life and how conflicts can be resolved through mutual understanding.

He has the “Ooltah Chasma”, but the “Siddha Najariya.” He might have to survive on the bitter diet food, but Tarak’s words and sweet and healing.

B.      Anjali Metha

If there is something everyone fears at Gokuldham, it is Anjali Bhabhi’s diet food.

The show depicts Anjali Bhabhi as a caring wife, always conscious about Tarak’s health and fitness. When it comes to Tarak’s food, Anjali Bhabhi makes no compromises.

She makes sure Tarak has everything but one type of food in the menu: diet food.

Different episodes in the show highlight Anjali Bhabhi as a wise and caring wife, but emotional and protective when it comes to Tarak.

2.       Aiyer Family

A.      Krishnan Aiyer

The scientist of Gokuldham. Krishnan Aiyer is another fascinating character of the show who is full of humor.

Being a scientist he likes fact, but nothing more than doing “Masti” with Jethalal. He finds his perfect companion in Atmaram Bhide and together they love throwing satire at Jethalal.

Krishnan Aiyer has a romantic side, and makes sure he never forgets anniversaries and important dates. Perhaps you naturally remember such dates when your wife is as beautiful as Babitaji.

Roses, chocolates and even a sports car. Krishnan Aiyer is no Popatlal when it comes to romance.

B.      Babitaji

Babitaji. Is a description even necessary?

The name itself is enough to soothe Jethalal. The modern, independent, and perhaps the most beautiful character at Tarak Metha Ka Ooltah Chasma.

Babitaji has been depicted in the show as a rational and modern lady, who loves to try new things be it sports, yoga, wellbeing, swimming or anything else.

She is seen as a caring wife, a good neighbor and a forward-looking member, who takes initiatives to organize new activities in the “Mahila Mandal”.

But whatever you say, Babitaji is the heartthrob of many including Jethalal at Gokuldham and elsewhere.
