Things to do in Grapevine Texas

I grew up near Grapevine Texas and I experienced a lot of the surrounding areas. This is a list of some of the things I enjoyed during different parts of the year. Grapevine Texas is located between Dallas and Fort Worth. There are many things you can do within a 45 minute drive.

Accommodations

For accommodations you can stay at the Great Wolf Lodge or the Gaylord Texan. Both are located near each other and both offer different experiences. The Gaylord Texan is located right off of Grapevine Lake. . Every year starting in late November one of the most impressive ice displays comes to the Gaylord in an event called ICE!. The theme changes each year, but some examples from the past are The Grinch and Charlie Brown. Unfortunately ICE! hasn’t been available the last two years due to Covid restrictions. The Gaylord Texan has many other events and conferences. To check the schedule at https://10times.com/venues/gaylord-texan-hotel-convention-center and click the event calendar tab.

The other most notable hotel in the area is the Great Wolf Lodge. The Great Wolf Lodge is located only about 1 mile away from the Gaylord Texan. The Great Wolf Lodge offers an indoor water park year around, restaurants and other fun activities. Kids can play the famous MagiQuest interactive game where they acquire a magic wand that allows them to do quest and activate things throughout the hotel. This is sure to keep your kids entertained.

Fishing, biking and hiking

Grapevine Lake offers a lot of activities for anyone interested in the outdoors. Fishing a great on Grapevine Lake where you can catch Largemouth Bass, Sandbass, 3 species of Catfish and Crappie. You can rent a boat or hire a guide to take you fishing. Grapevine Lake is also famous for its Party Barge rental. A large boat can be rented for large groups of up to 40 or 110 guest. Beavers are present on the lake and can be seen at night swimming through the water.

Several bike trails run around Grapevine Lake. One of the most popular is the Northshore Trail on the north side of the lake. If you prefer hiking there are many hiking trails on all sides of the lake including C Shane Wilbanks Trail and Walnut Grove Trailhead.

Shopping

The city of Grapevine is famous for its Main Street shopping. An old style shopping district that is located on Main Street. Shops, restaurants, a train station and farmer’s market can be found on Main Street. The train station has daily train rides from the Cotton Belt Depot to the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. During other parts of the year specialty events come to the Cotton Belt Deport. Santa has a train and sometimes Thomas the Train comes.

Wine and breweries

The city of Grapevine got its name from the many wineries in the area. You can do wine tasting at several places along main street. If beer is more of your thing, you can try any of the breweries located on or near main street. Hop and Sting Brewery and Outlaw Cider Company are two I recommend visiting.

Other activities

Since the city of Grapevine sits between Dallas and Fort Worth with a host of smaller cities in all directions there are plenty of activities. There are several zoo’s within a 45 minutes drive. There is Lake Lewisville just north of Grapevine Lake. There are a dozen malls in all directions include the Grapevine Mills Mall, Music City Mall in Lewisville, the Galleria Mall in Dallas and many more. Bass Pro Shops is located near the Gaylord Texan and several Cabellas are throughout the metroplex. If you want to golf there is a huge host of golf courses all around, or if you prefer a more relax setting you can golf at any of several Top Golf locations. You can experience the feel of sky diving with iFly. This is one of the activities I highly recommend. You can find any type of restaurant within Dallas and Fort Worth. I recommend trying some of the best Mexican food available and some of the many sushi restaurants. Bowling, arcades, laser tag, indoor trampoline parks, dine in movies, and many more options are available.
