There Are Also Many Birds

There are over 2,000 different types of birds in the world today. About 3% of those birds are very special. They are called "parrots." Many of the parrots are found in South America. Their main diet is fruit. [Voice-over] Many of the parrots have brightly colored feathers. Some of them have green, blue or yellow feathers. The most common color of feathers in parrots is black. In addition to parrots, there are also many kinds of birds that have bright feathers. Some are green, others are red, pink, blue, orange or white. There are also many birds that have brown feathers. There are many types of birds that have colorful feathers. Many of them live in the United States. There are metal birds about 11 species of birds that live in Texas. One of the most common is the chickadee. It is a very small bird. It is brownish red with white spots on its head. It is often called the "chick-a-dee." The chickadee has a very interesting way of feeding itself. [Voice-over] The chickadee doesn't like the taste of seeds. So it eats other things. The food it likes best is worms and insects.
