"The Gangster" Silver Coins Proclaims Mafia Love
I guess there isn't anyone who hasn't heard of Al Capone or Bonnie and Clyde? As mob figures, they will always be remembered for their principles, words, and stories.
I admire the idea of the mob as a kind of family, despite its extremeness. Things are clear and simple in that organization. There is no meandering between words and actions because there are some unwritten rules, the non-compliance of which carries serious consequences.
The relationship between mobsters is generally quite close, although it sometimes brings out the worst in people, but beyond that, there is a deep loyalty, trust, and perhaps honor, which today, as concepts, are a disappearing species.
I am very intrigued by the series "The Gangster," launched in Niue, which will be 4 silver coins. Two have been released so far - "Al Capone" - 2021 and "Bonnie and Clyde" - 2022. Their characteristics are:
Mintage 500;
Antique silver finish;
Diameter 45 mm;
Silver with purity 999/1000;
Weight is 62.2 grams /2 ounces/;
Extremely detailed Relief;
24-carat gold on the front side of the bullets;
Silver portraits and real, even dynamic scenes on the reverse, specific to these gangsters;
Imitation of a bullet hole, which is quite innovative;
Since I'm a fan of the people these coins are for, I'll give some facts to those who aren't familiar with these mobsters.
Alphonse Gabriel Capone is most popularly known as "Scarface". He became famous for his work, although he was in the gray area of life, building businesses and connecting the politicians and musicians of his time. The connection he made between the poor and the rich gave him the title “The Modern Robin Hood.”
Many movies and books tell his story differently, but the fact is that he cared for his people like family.
Bonnie and Clyde are a couple who are known for their love, trust, and faithfulness, literally to the grave, which is the basis for the mass comparisons to their romantic history nowadays. They even wanted to be buried next to each other, but their families did not agree.
Their mafia activities are mainly bank robberies and paid murders of high-ranking officials. The two built their community and until today people are impressed by their form of justice, so to speak.
