The Answer to Success in Anything Is an Ocean

You need to find your blue ocean.

OK, but what does that actually mean? I’ll tell you in a minute. Let’s start!

Have you wondered why some creators on any platform fail while others thrive? It’s because they have created their own blue ocean.

To further understand this “blue ocean” theory, we must first take an example. Let’s say I copy the article of a popular writer like Tim Denning or Mike Lewis. The title, subtitle, image, and body of the article are almost identical.

On which article would you click? The article from Tim Denning has 1K views or even more, and is written by someone who has 260K+ followers.

Or would you choose mine, an article with 10 views, and is written by someone who has far fewer followers than Tim Denning. Of course, you would choose Tim Denning’s.

Let’s get back to the “blue ocean” theory.

We are all competing with other writers on Medium who write about the same topics. The reader chooses the article with the best title, image, and which is the most appealing. The competition is incredibly high.

This is called a “red ocean”

But what if we decide to create a blue ocean? An ocean with no competition, no fight around who has the best title, subtitle, image, etcetera. We all want to swim in a blue ocean, and this is the only way to become successful.

You need to create your own blue ocean where you have no competition because you are the only one creating that type of content. People have no choice but to watch your videos or read your articles. There is no competition.

Don’t believe me? You might believe Peter Thiel, a member of the PayPal mafia, and one of the most successful individuals in the world with a net worth of $5 billion.

All happy companies are different:

Each one earns a monopoly by solving a unique problem

All failed companies are the same:

They fail to escape competition

You need to create your own monopoly.

There is so much information available on the internet, so many articles and video’s about the exact same topic. Why would they click on your article or video? That question is essential to ask yourself.

In your pursuit of finding your own blue ocean, you need to find something that is actually new. Don’t copy someone. It won’t get you anywhere.
