The pink city of India is another nickname for Jaipur. This is as a result of the town's historic district's pink-painted buildings. Pink being the colour of hospitality at the time, therefore Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh, the ruler of Jaipur, painted the entire city in that hue.

This architect was responsible for using limestone in the construction of the city, which helped to keep the inside of the homes cool. Insects were kept at bay and the homes stayed cool thanks to this.
The city offers several lovely places to see, including one of the state's loveliest forts and a locally famous step well that has been restored.
