The man known for the classical left-arm fast bowling, Ashish Nehra is a treat to watch. Though he struggled in his early career with the bat, he did hit winning runs for India.
Nehra was born on April 29, 1979, and his potential speaks of his dedication to the Indian Team in the major part. In his career of 18 years, he faced many threatening injuries, but for him, no “If-And-But” phrase existed at any time.
As always, he continued his pace in the game. It is completely obvious that he was one of the reasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad's success story in IPL. (He has always been a comeback king of all sorts.)
Some highlights of his career and life are:
1. He Made His International Debut for India in 1999
Nehra was among the few players who made a debut in 1999 at the Asian Test Championship against Sri Lanka. Also, Ashish Nehra hold the pride of being the second oldest International player in IPL.
2. He Is The Only Indian To Give The Best Figures In Bowling In The World Cup
His bowling helped India to register a “V” against England in Durban in World Cup 2003. He spelled 6 wickets off 23 balls. With his exceptional bowling, he got his name engraved in the archives of Indian Cricket forever.
3. He Is The Only Indian To Take Six Wickets In ODIs twice
It was one of the wonders of his rolling white ball. None of us can challenge the consistency of his performance when it comes to twisting the ball and taking up wickets.
4. He Has Been A Part Of Five Different Teams In IPL
In the first version of IPL, he was with Mumbai Indians. For the continuous two seasons, Nehra was with Delhi Daredevils. In 2011 and 2012, Nehra was with Pune Warriors. Again in 2014, he joined Delhi Daredevils. In 2014, he was picked up by Chennai Super Kings. Now, he has been in Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2016.
5. He Has Been Mocked But He Never Exceeded His Limits
Yuvraj Singh (being a well-known and eminent player) had made a joke on Ashish Nehra, saying, “Ashish Nehra can be injured even in his sleep!” But Nehra respected the fact that both of them belong to the same forte and represent the same team on an international level, keeping silent.
6. Nehra Is Still Using An Old Nokia And Is Not There On Social Media
Though he’s a great player, he still has no social media profiles anywhere. He doesn’t use Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and remains unresponsive to the jovial tickles. And just months before, he got to know about WhatsApp!
7. He Postponed His Wedding That Was Planned For 1st April
He had planned his wedding on April 1st, but since the day is celebrated as Fools Day, he postponed his wedding and married Rushma on April 2nd. He prefers not to talk about cricket to his beloved wife. Because she was once a die-heart cricket lover and had great insights of Cricket.
As Nehra retires from all forms of Cricket on November 1st, 2017, he decided to end his career at his very own home ground Firoz Shah Kotla. He marked his presence in the last match and had lunch with his Great Cricket Family.
In his 18 years career, he had played in 17 tests, 120 ODI and T2OIs for India and picked a total of 44, 157, 34 wickets in all three forms respectively. Definitely, he’ll be praised and remembered for the extravagant talent of rounding his wrist and moving a ball on a pitch in a manner that is hard to predict.
But the good news is that, he will stay connected to the cricket world as a commentator. You might not get to see him playing, but you certainly will get to hear him. We wish he excels in this field too!
