“I believe the simplest explanation is, there is no GOD. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This led me to a profound realization that there probably is no heaven and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful.”
These are the words of a famous cosmologist who slept into eternity on 14th March 2018. These are the words of Sir Stephen Hawking, who was diagnosed with ALS, a form of motor neuron disease. His words intrigued me, for he questioned the existence of God. I mean a man who was paralyzed for almost whole life, when said: “THERE IS NO GOD”, there must be substance in it.
Many believers of GOD say that GOD created this world, to which the atheist counter back saying that if GOD created this world, then who created GOD? Well, I don’t know.
Some theist says that God existed before this universe and will be there in this universe. Human beings are finite, they can’t understand infinity (GOD). Wow, that’s like the end of argument! If we are unable to understand GOD, then I must not be offered a brain to question about God’s existence.
In my view, people use GOD as an instrument to hide their inefficiency. When small-pox and chickenpox were considered a curse, some intellectual introduced GOD, rather than finding reasons and curing it. I have an example for this too. When Apple fell on Newton’s head, he contemplated why it was falling. Thus, the LAW OF GRAVITY was known to the world. Before Newton, the answer for objects falling was undoubtedly GOD.
For a theist, if we all are children of GOD, why he or she would want to create fear among his children? Won’t GOD want his children to strive hard for something worthy?
I think, when a person stops believing in himself instead of working hard, starts analyzing himself on being unable to muster the courage for facing life’s challenges, is trapped by his own bad habits and is not making a conscious effort to improve, he then remembers GOD. So, for a person like this, GOD definitely exists.
Did lack of self-confidence created GOD?
Did indolent attitude towards life created GOD?
Did fear of failure created GOD?
Did unwillingness to accept challenges created GOD?
Did inability to take responsibility for life created GOD?
If these compelled a person to believe in GOD, then it is disastrous for humanity. This kind of belief in GOD doesn’t empower human beings but makes him feel wretched!
But humans exist. (And their existence is undebatable on the earth) Many inventions have revolutionized our lives. From FAN to INTERNET, we have all comforts at our disposal. To pay respect to one’s existence, an individual must believe in oneself. Luck doesn’t exist without hard work.
With due respect, I would disagree with Sir Stephen William. GOD exists. If I continue to ask WHY on every phenomenon, the last answer will be GOD. I believe the one who created world has set up many rules and regulations. Some rules are discovered, like the LAW OF GRAVITY, LAW OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION, DESIGN OF DNAs, etc. while some are still mystery.
Although the GOD I believe commands me - “Humanity matters most”.
Why this world was created isn’t my issue. But to make it a better place by my efforts is certainly within my ambit. The GOD I believe in has told me to take responsibility of life and I think he must be proud of me that I didn’t use his sacred name to cover my mistakes and I focused to improve myself.
What type of GOD do you believe in?
The one who empowers you or the one who makes you feel wretched?
Finding an answer to this question is your assignment!
