Story Of Hrithik Roshan And His Fight Against Depression

Hrithik Roshan is one of the biggest Bollywood superstars, but the struggles he faced on his path to success are an inspiration to all of us. His motivational success story is amazing. After everything, he had gone through, his perspective on life changed.

1. Hrithik Roshan Suffered from Stammering

He was bullied and humiliated at school by other kids because he struggled to speak fluently. He has a speech disorder known as stammering, but since he was a child, he wanted so much to become an actor, so this was an enormous barrier that he needed to break. Unfortunately, it is one of those handicaps that is made fun of especially among kids. He can’t blame them, but they end up being mean because it looks funny. So the childhood of a person suffering from a problem like this is pure hell. From the time you wake up in the morning to night, he almost dreads some days to wake up because you have to go through an entire day when you have to use your speech and have to go through all those little moments of Hell for oral tests at school. “I used to bunk school. I used to fall sick. I used to break my hand, I used to get a sprain”.

2. Hrithik Decided to practice to Overcome his Stuttering

It was a heartbreaking experience for him. On one occasion he had to practice for 36 hours straight just so he could tell his cook what he wanted to eat, but Hrithik decided that his stammering won’t stop him to become an actor. Determined he dedicated himself to overcoming his speech, disorder and joined Speech Therapy classes. He used to practice for days in front of a mirror. He used to repeat all the words in different manners. Also, he reads books aloud, every time, focusing on the pronunciation and he’s still practicing to this day.

He is a strong role model for everyone who struggles with the same problems. He showed us that if you just focus and don’t give up, you can overcome every obstacle in your life. “I got over it, and so will you. I think It’s important for me to convey this message far and wide, and I want to do it more often”.

3. Hrithik Diagnosed with other Medical Problems

When he was 21, he was diagnosed with Scoliosis Curved Spinal Chord and was suggested by doctors to forget about acting if he wanted to not spend his life in a wheelchair, because acting requires a lot of stunts and dancing which can put a lot of strain on the spine. But Hrithik didn’t want to give up on his dream, so not acting and not dancing was not an option. He does physiotherapy exercises for his spinal cord issue to this day. In 2010, he was diagnosed with a bad knee. His knee was in extremely bad shape and it was so brittle the doctors told him that his condition was even worse than old people's. During the shooting of a movie, he was bedridden, and doctors informed him that his knee would hardly last a year. He woke up every morning in deep pain.

“I've started to trust life immensely, a situation might seem like one thing and it might lead to another thing. All my greatest victories have come in this manner. Today I may be termed a great dancer, but that started with a doctor saying that I’d never be able to dance. In my life, it broke my heart.” He said I suffered from Rheumatism on the knees and Scoliosis in my back. His misfortunes didn’t end there. In 2013, a blood clot was found in his brain. He underwent a very risky surgery. Pain is one thing, suffering is another. Suffering happens in the mind, once you detach from that, you can handle the pain, you make it your friend. It helps make you tougher and stronger by using the power of imagination in seeing the good in disguise. “In every bad thing that happened in his life has helped him bounce back and become even stronger. These are the cards I was dealt and if I complained I was not going to get anywhere. I just had to find the best way to play them. I analyzed my weaknesses and realized that, through practice, hard work, and, more importantly, through research and education myself, a lot could be accomplished and because of that, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and health and fitness”

4. Hrithik’s Imperfection makes him Better

Anything you create in life comes from your experiences. They have made me the man I am today. Hrithik has an amazing career. He is one of the highest-paid actors in India and has won many awards and a very bright future is ahead of him. He has also been voted the sexiest man in Asia. He was born with six fingers in one hand and said that his extra thumb used to repel people at school, but for him, it was beautifully imperfect. “I am lucky not because I got voted sexiest but because I just noticed, that God gave me a piece of ugly to carry with me to remind myself and others of how beautiful our imperfections make us.” After everything that happened to him, his positive outlook on life is magical and the wisdom that comes from his success story is motivational. “I've been through a beautiful spectrum of emotions, I’ve seen almost all the colors of life. It’s a gift. Few of us get to live through situations that are so varied. I'm an actor the more life, I live, the more emotions, I’ll experience and the richer human being I become the better actor I’ll be I’ve had many instances of revelations which always come at the precipice of fear.”

5. How To Fight Depression

When you feel like now, this is it, It’s all going to end. There’s no hope. That’s when your desperation for an answer reaches its peak. That’s when you find the enlightenment, it feels great and you feel proud to have made it so far. You find some beautiful, simple answers and you realize there is nothing to worry about. You find resilience, strength, and understanding in awareness. You realize It’s all just a game. I just have to play it well, why It’s not serious after all today. I realized that all I have to do in my life is to wake up in the morning with enthusiasm and leave this day.

How do you do that? Some will point out that, when you’re going through something sad and depressing, you don’t want to get up, I’d say treat it as a game. Get curious like a kid gets curious about life, make curiosity a driving factor. These are the signboards that have helped me through some of the most trying times that I’m playing a difficult game at level 20, so game on, come on with controls in your hand, make it fun and everything becomes simple. Everything becomes chilled. If you don’t have a sense of humor, you’ve lost the game already I have been through my ups and downs. I have experienced depression and confusion, It’s a normal thing and we should be very casual when we speak about it.

6. Reach out to People, Friends, and Family

I have experienced issues in my life. We all go through ups and downs in our lives. The ups and downs are important because we evolved through both of them. When you go through a down, it is important to have clarity of thought. Sometimes your brain takes over and it kind of feeds you with unwanted thoughts, feeds you with thoughts that are not aligned with what you want to do in life when your brain goes into dysfunction, and you can’t think straight, and you wonder why you’re not feeling good. Call up the doctor, call up your friends, your mom, dad, sister, and brother, and tell them “I’m not feeling good something’s wrong”, and reach out. I'm an infallible believer in life. Whatever happens in your life, if you get curious enough to see what lies beyond that mountain, then it becomes a catalyst for your growth. Whenever I felt down and out, I got curious like a child, or else I wouldn’t have become the person I am. I wouldn’t have become the solid individual that I am right now, so full of gratitude to have journeyed this beautiful life for the kind of relationships that I have enjoyed.

7. Do Not Be Afraid of your Struggles

A sense of composure and now feel the adventures that I have with my kids. The equations that I share with my friends, all that is the result of what I once thought, was an adversary. Every adversity comes with a blessing you just have to find. Do not be afraid of your weaknesses or your struggles or your miseries. Your miseries are eventually going to become the wind beneath your wings they’re going to make you fly one day. You know the best love story you can ever have is the one with life itself.

You know life, It’s dark, It’s dusty, It’s bright, It’s beautiful romance! It makes it the best love story of your life. “What I am today is not despite my struggles, but because of them, if you have the right perspective towards your struggles, they can become your wings.”
