About 80% of a person's body is made up of water. It is necessary for every organ, cell, and tissue in our bodies to function properly, which is why it is critical to drink enough water every day. If you have trouble remembering to drink water during the day, fill a water bottle in the morning and keep it close by to keep track of how much you're drinking. It's also a good idea to drink water from water-dense fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, melons, berries, lemons, and limes to increase your fluid intake.

If You Don't Drink Enough Water, What Happens?

Whatever you do, make sure you get those six to eight glasses of water; otherwise, dehydration can lead to a slew of issues. Here are some of the negative consequences:

1. Persistent headaches

A throbbing headache is one of the first symptoms you'll notice if you're dehydrated. If dehydration is the cause, it should go away after drinking a large glass of water.

2. A sluggish bowel movement

The colon contains water receptors that pull water from the body to soften the stools. If you don't drink enough water, you may experience hard stools and constipation, as well as abdominal pain and cramps.

3. Dull skin

Dehydration appears on the face as dry, ashy skin that is less radiant, plump, and elastic.

4. Fatigue

Your energy levels may drop, and you may experience fatigue and brain fog if you don't replenish your fluid intake. So, the next time you reach for another cup of coffee, consider whether you really need water.

5. Weight gain

When people confuse thirst for hunger, they eat more when they really need to drink more. Drinking a glass of water can sometimes help to alleviate hunger cues.

6. Dry mouth

Dry mucous membranes, or a lack of saliva, can occur if you don't drink enough water. As a result, talking, swallowing, and even breathing can become difficult. Drinking water, fortunately, is a simple solution.
