Party Planning 101: How to Choose a Theme

It may seem unusual to begin with how to select a party theme, but I believe it is the most important. The rest of the decision-making process gets much easier after you choose a party theme.

Whether it's "just because" or a particular holiday, every party has a theme. You might need to be more particular when choosing the mood, colors, or menu for your party if you decide to have a "just because" party. You may discover everything you need for a certain holiday celebration by conducting a quick search. Here are some suggestions for choosing the ideal party theme for you:

Check the calendar

You may find some fantastic party theme inspiration in a calendar. There are different sets of holidays every month, each with a special reason to celebrate. For example, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, Earth Day, Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. However, if major holidays are not your thing, there are other fun minor holidays like Pi Day, Greek Pride Day, etc.

Think about the things you love

This is definitely a fun method for picking a party theme. Chai, bubble tea, romantic comedies, greeting cards, Disney, singing, photography, and buffalo sauce are a few things some enjoy. You can easily transform any of these into a party theme, or at least a menu item.

There are undoubtedly other people who share your passions, so you should feel completely at ease throwing a party for whatever it is that you really enjoy.

Consider being more abstract

There is no requirement that the party's theme be a real, concrete object. Your party's theme may be “love”. Alternatively, silver. Pick your favorite music. Also photosynthesis. You can choose any topic for your main theme.

Brainstorm possible party theme

While you might believe that brainstorming comes first, it actually comes second. Once you have a topic in mind, write down everything that comes to mind related to it. If you're having trouble, Google or Pinterest should be able to help you. For example:

●      Purple: The following items are associated with the color purple: grapes, grape jelly, Barney, that Alice Walker book, purple, eggplant, that large Grimace character from McDonald's, Purple Rain, painting or drawing only in purple, eating only purple food, and wearing only purple clothing.

●      Recycling: Planting, reusing resources, creating clothing from recycled materials, volunteering, farmers' markets, gardening, clothing exchanges, and book exchanges are all examples of recycling. You can also match the plates, cups, and cutlery to match everything. Using a disposable dinnerware set that comes in different colors means having a fun and eco-friendly party.

●      Harry Potter: dress up like characters, turn your house into Hogwartz, do Harry Potter trivia, watch a Harry Potter movie, act like your favorite Harry Potter character, play Quidditch, turn Harry Potter into a drinking game, and have a book discussion.

Once you have a list of ideas related to the basic concept, you may focus all of your time, effort, and resources on just one particular theme.

Check your own reality

We have to start considering reality. You don't need to know everything you're going to do for the party just yet, but you do need to consider how much time, effort, and money you'll be spending on it. Keep in mind that you can always find a method to simplify an idea early on or add a little additional fun to a simple idea to spice it up. So try not to get discouraged.

Conclusion

Choosing a party theme should be the first thing on your list. Once you have your theme, the rest of the process becomes much easier. However, choosing a theme might not be easy. Therefore you need to think about the things you like, check the calendar for possible holidays coming up, or brainstorm possible party themes such as recycling, based on a Disney character, based on a color, or a movie character. Last but not least, music is also one of the most important things at your party, so play the music that you and your friends like.
