Controversies were never ending over the entire year that is going to bid us adieu. The massive victory of saffron groups in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh together left the NDA vulnerable to criticism.
Prime minister Narendra Modi, India’s most popular political leader promised “Achhe Din” in the elections speeches of 2014. But did we actually see those 'Good Days' coming to India in three years times?
The Government might have worked a lot in every sphere that needs attention, but some basic, justified and practical expectations of the common public remained unattended. However, our hopes are high that BJP Government will take care of that.
So far, the “Achhi” activities include new transportation initiatives, new crop insurance scheme, push for electric vehicles, merging the railway budget with union budgets, support to end the practice of triple talaq, etc. While a few disrupting initiatives like Demonetisation, GST, Anti-Romeo squad, Aadhar linking etc. also took place.
If the common public is asked, here are a few points that will contribute more to the “Achhe din” of our country in 2018.
1. Fuelling The Ganga Clean-Up Initiative
A dangerous slow progress for the project to clean Ganga because Namani Ganga fund goes unspent for the intended cause is not acceptable. The river that supports 500 million people and many species live that in the river. Besides cleaning, a regular check on the flow of untreated waste-water from industries is also required.
2. Bringing Back Black Money
After meeting with the Swiss President, there is a hope to explore and enhance cooperation on the issue. Swiss Banks were known for their secrecy practices, but now, under the pressure put on them by different countries, they are working to crack down this menace of black money. We hope BJP Government gets out all the black money from there.
3. Passing The Women’s Reservation Bill
The bill was first introduced in Parliament in 1996 by H.D. Deve Gowda government, but the bill that proposes 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and all other State Legislative Assemblies of India, hasn’t seen the light of the day. The public is still in hope to see the principle of 'Equality' expressed in the Preamble of the Constitution, coming to Centre and State Governments.
4. Creating Jobs In All Sectors
The BJP Government was unable to reverse or change the status quo of job growth in the span of 3 years. With the sharp slowdown of jobs, we have seen an unsatisfactory statement from Amit Shah, "It is impossible to provide jobs for 125 crores people. Self-employment is the biggest source of employment”. But, everyone can't be a businessman, Mr. Shah. A majority of Indian Public is waiting for jobs in 2018. Hope Modiji's foreign visits are of some help.
5. Preventing Attacks In The Name Of Religion And Caste
The biggest example of vigilante groups attacking minorities is “Gau-Rakshak”, or the “cow protectors”, who brutally attacked the Muslims and Dalits, following the rumours that they sell the cows or kill them for beef. After doing such activities, they even enchant the slogans, similar to the BJP party. We expect a serious and prompt legal action against the vigilantes.
This is not a full-fledged list, but a few essential points. We hope to see the Government taking us in the direction of “Achhe Din.”
