Giant Leaps That Childhood Took Since 1990s
From watching Jungle Book on TV to watching Doraemon on YouTube, and from running on the streets after ‘imli-wala’ to playing temple run on smartphones, childhood has changed in various ways. Here are 7 major differences between childhood of 90’s and childhood of today, that each one of you will connect with.
1. Games Can Also Be Played At Home
From gully cricket to flying kite, every game is now available on our smart phones. The very first question that every child asks these days is “Aapke phone mein game hai?”. And then, they are lost forever in their own arcade lands. No physical activity is entertained by the kids of today. Their device and they make love, becoming lousy day by day.
2. Dressing And Hair Styling Are Known
In our childhood, we and our siblings used to wear exactly same dresses, with the only difference being that had different colours. But kids these days have a much better grooming sense than adults. It is evident as oiling of hair has been replaced by application of hair gels. They know what’s in and what’s not. Pretty cool!
3. Ample Of Facilities For Convenience
Kids these days won’t understand how it felt playing hide and seek in the dark during power cuts and getting excused for not doing homework as there was no electricity the previous night. Also, what was it like to draw on the blackboard with the chalk during lunch hours. But parents these days look for power backup homes, AC class rooms and smartboards. Poor, we!
4. Growing Up Before Time
A man was heard asking his friend’s 6-year-old child about his girlfriends, which was surprising and at the same time funny. Back in 90’s sitting between the girls for a boy was a punishment. Today, it is deliberately done! When we were 6, we used to roll on the floor to get a mango ice cream whenever we went out. And today at 6, kids are watching YouTube videos!
5. Competition Level Has Increased
A 7-year-old kid comes from school at 2pm and runs to football classes at 4, followed by tuition at 6. And it doesn’t end here. Their parents want to send them to Kota for IIT JEE coaching. There future seems pretty sorted from today itself. Hell, lot of competition!
6. Pizza Is Latest Fun Food
From samosa at Re 2 to burger at just Rs 25, there is a huge difference between the food habits of 90’s kids and the kids of today. Aloo ki kachori was like a party food for us, but pizza is the only known fun food for kids of present era. Although, Pizza has become our favourite as well, we can’t compare it with fun foods of 90s.
7. Parted Relationship With Grandparents
The trend of nuclear family has come up in every house, but still 90’s kids remember the fairy tales their grandma used to tell. Also, grandparents were secret supporters in all mischiefs. They saved us from the thrashing of parents and pampered us like no one else. But lack of time with family has now created a void between children and their grandparents. They celebrate festivals alone and even don’t miss their grandparents.
If we sit to analyse, a lot more differences can be spotted. But, it is not the fault of the children. It is the rise in the standards of living that has influenced their childhood. The present generation kids have really missed a lot of things, although they are unaware about it. Hope, they could live our childhood, at least once!
