It is interesting to note that the number of ministers is reduced, but the responsibility that each of them has to borne has increased. Many Cabinet Ministers have been given more than one ministry to take care of.

The big 4 ministries - Home Affairs Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, Defense Ministry, and Finance Ministry have been handed over to Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, Rajnath Singh, and Nirmala Sitharaman respectively. All 4 leaders look promising. Let's hope they bring good reforms.

Usually, Prime Ministers are not seen taking up the responsibility of any ministry during their term. However, PM Modi retained Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Departments of Atomic Energy and Department of Space for himself. That's uncommon. This means there will be speedy improvements and achievements in these sectors.

The complete surprise package was S Jaishankar, the former Foreign Secretary, who was handed the External Affairs Ministry. S Jaishankar is undoubtedly the best choice for the External Affairs Minister, owing to his excellent diplomatic career.

He joined IFS in 1977, and has been the Indian Ambassador to China, US and Czech Republic previously. He has also been the man behind the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement. His term, reforms and pacts would be something we should keep an eye on.

Nirmala Sithraman's appointment as the Defense Minister of India in the previous BJP term was a surprise, and the shift to the Finance Minister of India was even more. But since she has showed her calibre in handling the complex and vast defense ministry, her economics background and managerial experience will be an added advantage n handling the finance ministry.

Nirmala Sitharaman is the first full time woman Finance Minister of India and also the first full time woman Defense Minister of India, having served from 2017-2019. Indira Gandhi also served as the Finance and Defense ministries when she was the Prime Minister of India. But, she did not serve full time.

This time, the BJP government has introduced a totally unexpected ministry - Jal Shakti. The sole aim of this move is to emphasise that water conservation and water crisis will be the areas of utmost attention this year. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who comes from Rajasthan, has been handed over the key charge.

The BJP manifesto of solving India's water crisis will be under his leadership. He has previously exhibited great work for the welfare of farmers, so he seems promising. On a lighter note, he is widely known for his use of social media. Astonishingly. he is the most followed Indian politician on Quora, with more than 73k followers.
