It happened didn’t it? You hit the yellow brick wall of writer’s block, and now you have absolutely no idea what to write about. I can go days or weeks without writing a single word. When this happens, I take some time and spend an absurd amount of hours scrolling through Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, or even the Google homepage, only to give up and try again another day.

Recently, I signed up for tiktock. Yes, I know I’m late to the party, and I only downloaded it because my son begged me to. After watching videos for hours and hours, I realized that it’s actually flipping amazing. I would suddenly feel so eager to write about what I was watching. You might be reading this thinking but tiktock is just a bunch of silly videos — it is and it isn't.

There are also tons of very informative videos full of stories, facts, and advice. So after I spent a ridiculous amount of hours watching videos, I immediately took out my notebook and jotted everything down so I wouldn’t forget, and before I knew it, I had a week’s worth of ideas staring right back at me.

Before I continue, I just want to let you know that if you’re not a member on Medium, you can only read a certain amount of stories a month. However, if you join Medium with my referral link, which will cost you no more than £5 a month, you can read as many stories from me and other writers as many times as you like.

So what is tiktock??

Tiktock is a social media platform that allows people to create videos and share them across the community. The videos usually include singing, dancing, real-life stories, comedy, lip-synching, and advice.

How can you find ideas for writing?

Tiktock is a great source of writing inspiration. You can search for any subject you like, and tons and tons of videos will appear. You can also get a rough idea of any new trends that are hot right now, so after searching for your required topic, you will see every video related to it, and some of those videos can also tell you things that you might not even know.

So after watching some videos, I’ll go and do some of my own research, and just like that, I have a ton of ideas at my fingertips.

I’m not saying go and copy everyone’s stuff because that’s a big no-no. I’m saying that by watching these videos, you can gain a rough idea of what’s popular, and what topics are inspiring you, so then you can go ahead and put your own spin on everything.

Afew Tictock statistics

TicTock officially has over 1 billion monthly active users. The app has been downloaded over 2.6 billion times worldwide, and it's also available in 154 countries. That’s bloody amazing, just think how many people have watched the same video as you, so by heading to medium and writing about whatever the video was about — you have the potential to gain a lot of eyes on your work.

Of course, you’ll need to work on your SEO and promotion. You can promote using any social media platforms that you currently use — such as Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and so on.

You can also upload directly to tiktock if you wish. Don’t ask me how because I have no idea how that side of it works, but if some of you don’t mind creating videos, then you can promote your articles there.

Sofirst of all, you need to download the app and sign up. Don’t worry It’s free to use, you don’t have to spend a penny. You can then create your profile if you wish — I haven’t yet as I’m just using this to watch videos.

In the search button, type what you want to watch or your writing niche.

After that, you can either click on one of the subjects or press the search button. You’ll then be confronted with dozens of videos. Some will be funny, serious, provide tips, relief, and so on.

I hope I’ve convinced you to give tiktock a try. You won’t regret it, I only wish I discovered it sooner. ♥
