How I Find Niches to Write and Design About.

How I find niches to write and design about.

If you follow me, you probably already know that my favorite side hustle is designing t-shirts and stickers. It’s getting harder and harder for me to come up with design ideas because I have already made hundreds of designs for my favorite topics. The same happens with my writing. I’ve written many topics that I am passionate about, but after a while I get writers block. These are some of the methods I use to come up with inspiration.

Twitter

I absolutely hate Twitter, but Twitter does have one great advantage for creative work, Twitter Trends. Login to Twitter and click the # hash tag icon on the left.

On the next screen click on the “Trending” button.

Scroll through the trending topics until you find something that interest you. Sometimes this can generate great niches, or at least great starting points for new idea. Today when I used the process, I found that International Womens Day is trending. This might be a topic to write about if I an experience or a story related to International Womens Day. I could write about the history, why the date was chosen or why it’s important.

Facebook

Facebook can be a good place to find topics to write about. A friend may post something that inspires you. Or you may see a random post that triggers an idea. I just checked my Facebook feed and found this.

I could write an article about my favorite band, my favorite song or something else music related. I wouldn’t have ever thought about writing about music without coming across this.

Amazon

Sometimes I will use Amazon for inspiration. I will narrow down my results to t-shirts. Then I will see what the most popular t-shirts are about. I one time came across a funny fishing design. This inspired me to make my own designs that were fishing related.
