Free of Common Cold and Other Illnesses This Winter

Your child may have difficulty adjusting to the change in environment caused by the drop in temperatures and the fading of the sun's rays. During this time, your child's defenses must be strengthened. To combat illnesses such as the flu, colds, sore throats, and ear infections, their immune systems must be on high alert.

When your child's immune system is weakened, he or she is more susceptible to infections during the colder months, which can be dangerous. Here are a few helpful hints to get you through the winter.

The winter season: Follow these tips to keep your children safe this

winter.

1. Dress them properly

Remember to protect your child's head and chest. Your child will be kept warm as a result of this. This is important because studies have shown that our heads account for 30% of the heat we lose from our bodies. Remember to dress your child in full sleeves and full-length pants.

2. Sanitize and maintain cleanliness

As your child's immune system fights infections, it is safer to keep their environment and possessions clean. Because children spend the majority of the cold weather indoors, it is critical to clean and sterilise the home on a regular basis, especially during and after rainstorms, when the wetness promotes fungal infections. Encourage them to keep their belongings dry and clean, such as their clothing, socks, toys, and school bags.

3. Eat properly

This time of year, a healthy, balanced diet is critical for your child's improved health. The foods your child eats have a significant impact on their immune system. As a result, increasing the amount of immunity-boosting foods in their diet, such as antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, spices, and so on, will keep them healthy.

4. Make certain they are properly hydrated

Consuming enough fluids is also critical during this cold season. While we all get thirsty in the summer and drink a lot of water, it is also important to increase your fluid intake in the winter. Even if your child is not thirsty, staying hydrated is essential for overall health during the winter. Winter dehydration is possible as the body's core temperature rises due to the decrease in ambient temperature.

5. Ensure that they get enough sleep

Sleep has a significant impact on the performance of our immune system. Strong variations in your child's physical and mental activities, as well as their heart rate, body temperature, and immunological parameters such as leukocyte and cytokine production, are all affected by the typical sleep-wake cycle. A lack of quality sleep causes an inflammatory state. Sleep deprivation can weaken the immune system, making the child more susceptible to infection from bacteria and viruses.

6. Reduce your intake of sugary foods

Unfortunately, holiday celebrations often include sugary foods that are harmful to a child's health. Increased sugar consumption, in addition to suppressing the immune system, causes systemic inflammation. Children who consume a lot of sugar are more likely to get the flu, the common cold, and other illnesses. To help children's immune systems, limit their sugar intake to one small treat per day.
