The ocean is beautiful, mysterious, wild and free. It holds in itself many secrets. When you go through the deep waters, you realize that the ocean has revealed very little of itself and that it has much more for people to wonder.
1. Ocean floor contains 85% more vegetation than land
The Earth is quite clearly ocean as we all know. In fact, most of the earth's oxygen comes from tiny ocean plants called phytoplankton. Every breath that we take has oxygen from ocean plants. The more we thank them, the less it is because if land was more, we would have had a really tough survival!
2. Hidden underwater waterfall exists in the Indian Ocean
Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, has something rarer than the flora and fauna of the ocean bed. An optical illusion that makes it look like there's really an underwater waterfall within the ocean can be witnessed here. You can explore this using Google Earth as well!
3. Fresh and salty smell around the oceans is actually the smell of rotting seaweed
It is unmistakable as it is incredibly abundant. It is not only soothing but acts as a powerful symbol to attract birds and animals towards the ocean. This prevalent water side odour is produced by a wind-borne compound called dimethyl sulphide (DMS). And unbelievingly, around 30-50 billion tons of DMS is formed every year by the oceans, maintaining its smell.
4. Harnessing 0.1% of ocean’s kinetic energy could solve global energy crisis
With a vast global ocean area, the amount of kinetic energy generated by water currents and tides is huge. If just 0.1% of it could be captured and put to use, we could have easily satisfied the current global energy demand 5 times over. The joint efforts of sun and moon are still serving as a thing of beauty, a joy forever.
5. Many underground rivers flow along the ocean floor, undiscovered
Located in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, there's a secret underwater river called Cenote Angelita (Spanish for Little Angel). Underwater rivers are arguably the most unique formation on account of variation in densities of water. The fresh water separates from the saltwater above it, forming an underwater river. One can easily swim along this underwater creation, making shit real.
6. Oceans have estimated 10 billion tons of gold that could raise the third world war
Yes, huge reserves of gold and other precious metals are hiding in reservoirs of water. Besides gold, silver and uranium are other precious metals in oceans that could trigger one of the most perilous ocean rushes in human history. Scientists believe that high temperatures have melted these metals and caused them to move from rocks and magma into water. Yet, we must fear the third world war.
7. More people have traveled into space than have traveled to the deep ocean realm
We have mysteries in abundance about the oceans for we could never find answers to them. The low temperatures and high pressures under water are killers. This is why, we have better maps of the Mars than the images ocean floor.
So, if you are falling short of adventures in life, you can go an expedition for sea-watching, exploring all shades from green to blue and the rich diversity of flora and fauna under water. The ocean will stir your heart, inspire your imagination and bring eternal joy to your soul, besides revealing some secrets to you!
