Bengaluru witnessed the extravagant auction of IPL players on the last weekend (January 27th and January 28th, 2018). It saw Ben Stokes becoming the highest bid player of the 11th edition of IPL, sold at INR 12.5 crores.
Not just Ben Stokes, there are some players who were sold at whopping unexpected. For example, MI bought Krunal Pandya at INR 8.8 crores, several times over his base price of INR 40 lakhs. This shows that franchisees emptied their pockets to buy the players. And the fight for the winner of IPL 2018 is going to be really tough.
We had 1,112 cricketers in the pool, who registered for this IPL season, where 581 players got the chance to throw their hat into the massive ring. But only the 182 fortunate players, up grabbed the spots in IPL 2018, while just 169 were sold.
If you find the above numbers surprising, there are many more “shocks” to come. No teams stood up to take the best strike bowler - Malinga. Even Hashim Amla will not play for anyone in IPL 2018. Thug life!
Feeding Trends bring you the list of players who were in the limelight of the 2018 IPL auction affairs and who have made headlines.
• Gautam Gambhir is Back To DD After 7 Years
Surely, that was a big surprise for everyone as KKR hadn’t bought or bid for Gambhir. Our sources reveal that Gambhir himself requested management not to bid for him. Delhi Daredevils bought this Indian Cricketer for INR 2.80 crores. Now, the left-handed batsman is back to Delhi Daredevils after 7 years stay in Kolkata Knight Riders.
• Ben Stokes Again Becomes The Highest Bid Player
The all-rounder player, Ben Stokes again leads the crorepati club of IPL with a worth of 12.5 crores, the highest bidding price. Last year, he was bought by Rising Pune Supergiants for 14.5 crores. Though he has seen a downfall, still, he’s on the hit list.
• Krunal Pandya Gained 220 Folds Of His Base Price
This man was confident enough that he’ll surely go to Mumbai Indians in the auction. Well, his contribution to the team in the last season was impeccable, as he bagged 243 runs and took 10 wickets under his belt. In the 11th edition of IPL, he is among the fortunate player who is sold at 220 folds of his base price. And he seems quite delighted to play with his brother.
• Jaydev Unadkat Becomes The Costliest Bowler Until Time
Unadkat has become the first fast-bowler to be sold at the price of Rs. 11.5 crores in the history of IPL. Rajasthan Royals owns this left-arm seamer. It was so surreal that, this is the only season when franchisees are running after fast bowlers to grab them in their team.
• Christopher Gayle is Bought By KXIP
This season KXIP will be fortunate enough to have Christopher Gayle, who went unsold for last 2 years. Surely, this opening batsman will be a threat to the oppositions, as he holds innumerable records to his name in the IPL. Let’s see who brought good luck charm for whom.
• Lasith Malinga Went Unsold This Season
Although franchises were targeting the fast bowlers in this season, Malinga remained unsold this season. Malinga is the highest wicket-taker in the IPL, still he found no buyer for him. Seems like everyone forgot that it was Malinga’s crucial performances when MI won the title back in 2015. He picked up 154 wickets in 110 matches in the IPL season.
Absolutely, the market was hot for the fast pace bowlers and wicket-keepers. And as always IPL has been a platform for young comers to showcase their abilities. While the retained players of every team are assets to them, the final teams have all players as their assets. After all, they have invested so much on them.
The power-packed IPL matches start in the month of April, and the entire fixture of matches will be over by May 2018. Time has come to see, who grabs the IPL 2018 trophy.
And the countdown starts from today!
