Expert Tips for Desert Camping for a Thrilling Experience

B

efore dreaming of spending a star-studded night under an open sky amidst breathtaking sand dunes, there are certain factors that might help you in sailing smoothly on your next desert adventure.

  • Timing is crucial: A drenched night in the desert is no one’s fancy. In fact, often times it can be dangerous to experience heavy monsoons in the desert. So to avoid getting caught between floods, landslides, and sand storms, it is the important time your trip wisely. Agafay desert glamping is all about offering fun and comfort. For this reason, we recommend this activity to be much more favorable during spring or fall.

  • Water is the key: It is a desert after all, and water dearth is quite expected. Especially if you are traveling with kids, having enough water in stock is not a suggestion but a mandate. This might seem obvious but not giving enough care to water on camping trips might often result in dehydration.  Even when the temperature is the same or even, the desert demands you drink water more than usual to be safe and healthy, especially if you are planning on hiking or other physically demanding activities.

  • Guard your food: Although booking a camping tour from a reputable agency can take care of food and safety requirements, still when you are out in the wilderness it is better to steer your own boat. Even deserts have bears, coyotes, mountain lions, and vermin who are hunting for food. Stay within the safety confines and always guard your food.

  • Be careful about clothing: the Desert gets really hot during day time and really cold at night. This stark contrast between temperature rise and drop can be uncomfortable for the human body. Always pack clothes for extreme weather changes. For daytime, pack breathable, moisture-soaking clothing and for nights, pack a warm jacket or extra sweatshirt. Depending on the temperature suggested by the guide, you might pack a wool hat and gloves with a warm sleeping bag.

  • Footwear safety: Always watch your step and wear Snake and Cactus Proof Footwear. Desert canyons are home to camouflaged snakes.  Pack a pair of kevlar boots or some other bite-proof footwear. This will keep you safe from mindlessly stepping onto the cactus and hurting your feet.

  • Be careful of the animals that bite you: Desert has fire ants, spiders, wasps, and scorpions which can bite and can also lead to deadly reactions.  Always inspect your tent area to make sure you aren’t sitting down on a wasp nest, anthill, or an angry scorpion.

  • Bring overhead cover: Before you leave your tent, always cover it with an additional later to ensure that your tent does not boil up hot by the time you return. Bring a tarp that is large enough to cover the tent or just take your tent down every morning.

  • Be equipped for sand storms: Sand storms are not an uncommon occurrence so be prepared by carrying goggles, and covering your nose and mouth properly.
