Caffeine : Good or Bad?

You wake up in the morning and probably, the first thing you want is your tea or coffee. You may go mad if you don’t get it. You start having a headache, your head may spin a little till you have the first sip of your brewed beverage.

Caffeine is the most widely used drug in the world. It has its perks but its cons outweigh them significantly.

  • Caffeine in Nature

In plants, caffeine acts as a natural pesticide. It paralyzes and kills insects that attempt to feed on the plants. Caffeine also limits the germination of seeds near the plant that could grow to compete for resources.

  • Caffeine to Us

Evolutionarily speaking, caffeine is new to humans. Its products are toxic in nature. When we consume caffeine, our bodies get alarmed as to what to do with it and its toxicity. So our body starts producing adrenaline to increase the blood flow and increase the pulse so that our body can push the caffeine toxins away.

The only thing that is worth mentioning is that due to the adrenaline and increased blood flow, we feel good! We feel we have energy for the day. Another thing noteworthy is that this energy is available till there is a significant amount of caffeine in our blood, which is not there for a lot of time. Then after the caffeine’s effect is gone, we are back to low energy and what do we need? That’s right. Another cup of tea or coffee. And the cycle continues…(addiction)

  • Sleep

People say that they drink all these caffeine-rich beverages and they sleep fine. But really what is happening is that they just fall asleep fine. What is not taken into account is that their REM sleep cycles and NREM or Deep Sleep Cycles are affected by caffeine. Caffeine may be the reason why when people wake up in the morning, they have low energy. And then they want more caffeine.
