2) Lagaan (2001)

Starring Aamir Khan, this is one of the best fictional movies from Bollywood Sports Movies, which depicts the days of British rule in India. In this movie, there was a Cricket Match organized between the British team and the team of locals, to abolish the Lagaan (tax). 

Lagaan also got nominated for the Oscar Awards.

3) Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)

This movie is based on the life of an Indian Athlete, Milkha Singh who is the twice champion of the Asian Games, a one-time winner of Commonwealth Games, and an Olympian. The Role of Milkha Singh is Played by Farhan Akhtar in this movie, which was superb. 

This story is really inspirational as it highlights the struggles of Milkha Singh from a child who lost his parents, birthplace, and love, but still, without losing hope, he works hard on his dream to represent India.

4) Chak De India (2007)

Being inspired by the Indian team’s performance in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, it is a fictional movie starring Shah Rukh Khan as a coach of the Indian Women's Team. This movie also highlights the themes of Sexism and Feminism, showing how the Indian women Hockey team became World Champions overcoming every challenge in their journey.

5) Paan Singh Tomar (2012)

This movie is the biography of Paan Singh Tomar, an Indian Soldier, who participated in the National Games and shows exceptional skills and dedication towards the game. In 1967, he got a chance to participate in International Military Games and won the Gold medal as well. Irfan Khan Played the role of Paan Singh Tomar in this movie.

6) Jo Jeeta Vo Sikandar (1992)

Aamir Khan as a leading role, played Sanjay in this movie, a useless boy in the first half, but later on works really hard on himself and starts preparing for the Cycle racing competition which is going to be organized. 

As a result, surpassing Shekhar Malhotra, Sanjay lifted the title of that competition, which was the dream of his elder brother Ratan and his father Ram.

7) Iqbal (2005)

This fictional movie is a story of a cricket-obsessed boy Iqbal (Shreyas Talpade), who was deaf and mute since his birth. Still, he wants to become a pacer, having a dream to represent India with his bowling skills. Even after a lot of challenges he faced, still he works really hard and finds his place in the Indian Cricket team. 

Iqbal was awarded the title of ‘Best Movies on Social Issues’.

8) Saala Khadoos (2016)

Sala Khadoos is a Bollywood Sports Movie based on boxing sport. Here, Aditya (R. Madhwan) is a boxing coach who used to give tough training to his students and used to be very harsh when it comes to their training. On the other hand, Ezhil Madhi (Reetika Singh), was an aspiring boxer, who lives in a lower-middle-class family. This movie shows us how a coach made an ordinary girl, a boxing champion.

9) MS Dhoni:  The Untold Story (2016)

Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, this movie is the biopic of the best wicketkeeper-batsman and one of the best captains of the world, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which receives great love from the Cricket fans, especially from Thala fans. 

The best part of this movie is, even after getting a Government job at Indian Railways, he didn’t give up on his dream and left his job for Cricket.

10) Hawaa-Hawaai (2014)

Directed by Amole Gupte, Hawaa-Hawaai is based on skating, where a boy Arjun Harishchandra Waghmore (Partho Gupte) aspires to be a skater, with the help of his coach Ankit Bhargava (Sakib Saleem) and made him complete in skating.

11) Kai Po Che! (2013)

This one of Bollywood Sports Movies is based on cricket, where we can see Sushant Singh Rajput as Ishaan (Ish) Bhatt, who was an ex-district level cricketer but became a victim of religious politics and communal hatred. Other actors are Amit Sadh as Omkar (Omi) Shastri and Raj Kumar Rao as Govind (Govi) Patel. 

Kai Po Che is based on the novel, “3 Mistakes of My Life”, written by Chetan Bhagat (2008).

This movie is the biography of Indian Boxing Champion “Mary Kom”, whose role is played by actress Priyanka Chopra. After winning the Women’s World’s Ameature Boxing Championship, she got married and got blessed with twins. Then she made her comeback in boxing and achieved new peaks in her boxing career.

13) Mukkabaaz (2017)

A fictional story of a local boxer, Sharvan Kumar Singh (played by Vineet Kumar Singh). Being a local boxer, he works for local politicians and for the head of the State Boxing federation. In the whole story, you’ll get to know about how Sharvan overcame his challenges and won the Boxing Championship.

14) Sultan (2016)

Sultan is a story of a wrestler Sultan Ali Khan (Salman Khan) and his wife Aarfa Ali Khan (Anushka Sharma). Here, Aarfa has to quit wrestling because of the pregnancy, while Sultan continues his wrestling and won gold in the Olympics too. 

But later, his son got dead due to a deficiency of O-ve blood and Sultan also quit wrestling. Further, after passing some years, he made his comeback and won the championship like a fighter and donated the whole money he won for Blood Bank.

15) Soorma (2018)

Biographical movie on Hockey, in which Diljit Dosanjh played the role of Sandeep Singh, who is often known as the Flicker Singh of India. During the leaving for World Cup, he accidentally shot on his lower back and his lower half of the body got paralyzed. 

Still, he didn’t give up on Hockey and made his comeback in 2007. He also received the Arjuna Award from the President of India for his dedication to the country.

16) Brothers (2015)

Brothers movie is the official remake of the American film “Warrior”, which got released in 2011. This is the movie of two brothers David Fernandes (Akshay Kumar) and Monty Fernandes (Siddharth Malhotra), who face each other in the Street fighting legal sport named Right 2 Fight (R2F).

17) Gold (2018)

One of the most inspiring Bollywood Sports Movies on Hockey, along with Soorma, this movie is also based on true incidents. When the Indian hockey team beats Germany in the final of the 1936 Olympics, the British National Anthem is played. 

After this, coach Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar) was disappointed because of the British Anthem played. After the struggles of 12 years, when India again won Gold in the Olympics, the Indian National Anthem is played.

This is the movie about the former Olympic medalist, Boxer Baldev Choudhary (Dharmendra), and his sons Angad and Karan. Baldev had to quit Boxing forcefully due to the falsely accused of Drug doping. Later, he raised his both sons Angad and Karan, as boxing stars.

Patiala House is one of the best comedy movies from Bollywood Sports Movies. In this movie, Akshay Kumar plays the role of a fast bowler, who wishes to be in the England Cricket Team. 

Patiala House is based on the life of Monty Panesar.

20) Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulli (2007)

Starring Zain Khan as Karan and Rahul Bose as Varun Roy, this movie depicts the story of how an aspiring cricketer Karan got a magical bat, and with its help, he got selected for the series against Pakistan.

A Biographical movie on Shooting, based on the lives of Chandra Tomar (Bhumi Pednekar) and Prakashi Tomar (Tapsee Pannu), who, in their older age, realized their shooting skills and passion towards the game.
