Bollywood Music Without Melody and Words.
Since my college days, I used to have habit of refreshing my playlist every 6 months. Mostly my focus had been on Lyrics and Melodies.
I still try to refresh the playlist, but the irony is my list is almost same for quite few years now with few here and there exceptions.
I mostly don't restrict myself with any genre, my playlist has both Begum Akhtar and Amit Trivedi and in between Rafi, Late, Bhupinder, Udit, Reshma or Nusrat Fateh Ali.
What's the point, the point is I may not be the problem but is Bollywood music which is losing on its music.
Why is this happening. I see three major reasons for this. Firstly, corporate house has come to foray. unlike earlier where producers were sitting on music studios and were flexible and patient. Nowadays, there is formula where you need to have Hookup lines which can be accommodated in shorts, reels etc. Rest you fill the anything. Few songs I use to start humming from between but now days even getting hookup lines also is getting tougher. Exception being Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Mahesh Bhatt who still work on music but at times they too succumb to corporates.
Second reason, most of the songs are these days running on background, they are more or less background scores. There may not be any human interactions. Say conversation between the couples, For ex, Jaaneman Jaaneman from Choti Si Baat, it is turning their conversation to music. Easy to connect or say few songs we may like to hear when we feel lonely.
Thirdly, Songs Writer, if the words do not have soul, neither the singers nor music directors can bring emotions. A song may get popular due to music but that is very temporary. Most of the evergreen songs have outstanding lyrics. We may like Badshah Song but may disconnect soon.
Like Amir Khan said while launching song of Laal Singh Chadha that songs are of listening not viewing and he launched the Song on Radio instead of Youtube. At least he started the conversation.
Hope the draught of good music ends soon and we may listen to new songs, when we are happy, sad, lonely, with friends or with partner.
Appreciate the creator
