It started with the birth of Dhoni in Ranchi followed by him getting noticed by his coach who invites him for a tryout. After Dhoni got selected for the practice there was no looking back for Dhoni. Azhar is an autobiographical cricket film based on the life of Mohammad Azharuddin directed by Tony D’Souza and written by Rajat Kapoor. The movie got produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Sony Pictures Networks and starred Emraan Hashmi, Nargis Fakhri, Prachi Desai, Lara Dutta, and Kunal Roy Kapoor. The movie followed Azhar and his legal battle to prove his innocence in the accusation put on him about match-fixing after his name gets connected with a bookie named M.K. Sharma. The film got produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment and stars Ranveer Singh, Jiva, Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, and Tahir Raj Bhasin in the lead cast. The plot revolved around Sachin and his journey in the world of cricket. The film is divided into two parts, the first showing Sachin’s childhood and the second part showing his cricket journey. The film was shown through a series of original interviews, videos, and photos of Sachin Tendulkar and his team. The movie ends with Arjun being killed because of a misunderstanding between him and the police. After some time Zoya and her son are shopping and she falls short in money. Her son takes out his toy from the basket thus, making Zoya proud as she realized he isn’t greedy as his father was.

Kai Po Che is a cricket film written by Abhishek Kapoor and Pubali Chaudhary. The film was produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor and under the UTV Motion Pictures. The movie was inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s novel named three mistakes of my life. The movie stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkumar Rao, and Amrita Puri playing the female lead. The budget of the film was Rs.30 Crore and a box office collection of Rs.83 Crores. The film got its release on 22 February 2013.
The movie followed three best friends Ishaan, Govind, and Omkar. The movie began with Govind giving a presentation in school followed by him picking Omkar from jail. They halt at a restaurant and reminisce about their past with their friend Ishaan in it. The three friends pool their funds together and open a sports shop. Ishaan teaches cricket to a young boy named Ali after seeing potential in him. The communal riots taking place in Gujrat after the elections affected all three friends’ relationships with each other. In an attempt to kill Ali, Om ends up killing his best friend, Ishaan, and ends up getting charged for the same. The movie ends with a grown-up Ali debuting as a player in Team India with Govind and Vidya married and having a child together. Om also seeks forgiveness from Vidya for accidentally killing her brother.

10. Awaal Number

The movie also had Ekta as the female lead who was discovered for her talents by Dev Anand only. All the films produced by Dev Annand in his life’s second half are worth a watch.
The plot of the movie revolved around Sunny a new cricketer selected by DIG Vikram Singh to play for the Indian Team instead of his brother Ronny who was a previous professional cricket player. Even though Sunny respects Ronny, the only thing Ronny feels is hatred towards Sunny for the fame and love he’s receiving from the audience. Ronny plans his revenge against Sunny by helping a group of terrorists by planting bombs in the stadium where the match is supposed to be played. DIG Vikram Singh discovers the plan and foils it thus saving the lives of hundreds of people.
11. Lagaan

Lagaan is also the debut movie of Gracy Singh along with Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne in Bollywood movies. It was one of the best cricket movies having positively impacted the audience. The film budget was around Rs.25 Crores with a box office collection of Rs.65.8 Crore. The film was inspired by a drama named Naya Daur. Lagaan became one of the most expensive movies of its time. The film got its release on 15 June 2001.
The plot revolved around a bet placed between Bhuvan, who’s a young farmer, and Andrew Russell, a sadistic company captain on the game of cricket. Bhuvan bets that if he wins, then they are exempted from water tax [ Lagaan], to which the captain agrees thinking they’ll lose. The whole ordeal takes place in a drought-stricken Champaner. The village slowly joins Bhuvan in his bet and supports him after he starts learning how to play cricket from Elizabeth, the captain’s sister who’s in love with Bhuvan. There is also a tint of jealousy between Elizabeth and Gauri as they both are in love with the same boy, whereas Bhuvan’s in love with Gauri. At the end of the movie, the villagers win the match. Elizabeth returns to England with her unrequited love when Gauri and Bhuvan decide to get married.

The plot revolved around Praghat Singh [ Gattu], his bond with his father, and his love for cricket. Gattu wants to play cricket for England’s cricket team but his father is against him playing for England’s team and blackmails Gattu with attempting suicide and ending his life. Gurtej has a habit of controlling Gattu’s life making, it difficult for Gattu to do anything of his choice, thus living a life of resentment. Life gives Gattu another chance to play cricket and with some convincing from his siblings, he takes up the opportunity and plays for the team, hiding about the same from his father. Gurtej has a heart attack after coming to know about Gattu playing for the team he despises, but Gattu continues to play for the team. In the end, Gattu with his mother’s help makes Gurtej realize how poorly he’s treating him. Gurtej goes to the stadium where Gattu is playing the match to show his support for his son in fulfilling his dreams.

The movie stars Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor in the lead role of Veera Kaur and Rohan Singh. Anupam Kher, Sherlyn Chopra, Rakhi Sawant, and Dalip Tahil play the lead supporting role. The movie revolved around Veera, a young girl who does drama in a small village with dreams of playing cricket. Rohan unknown to Veera and Veer being the same person falls for Veera thus creating a series of funny scenes as Veera tries to hide her true identity as she pretends to be Veer’s sister. Saby comes to terms with the fact that his obsession with cricket was affecting his life with Kashmira.

The plot revolves around Zoya who starts getting considered lucky for the Indian Cricket team right from the time she’s born as it was the same day India won the World Cup. Now an adult Zoya goes for an ad campaign to Sri Lanka where the Indian team wins the match and later, she’s considered lucky for the team by everyone. Nikhil the cricket team captain gets irked by this as he believes in hard work, not superstitions. Even though the captain starts liking Zoya he initially refrains from acting on it. The movie ends with Nikhil winning the cup without Zoya’s presence on the ground thus breaking the thought process and superstition of Zoya being lucky for the team with the reconciliation of Zoya and Nikhil.

The movie ends with an autobiography written by Jasleen Shergill named Jersey and a grown-up Ketan received Jersey while revealing his father’s heart condition that led to his ultimate death.

The plot revolves around a father-son duo and their relationship with each other and cricket. Vijay Shekhawat dreams of playing cricket for the Indian team and soon his dreams do come true but the fame and money reach his head-turning once grounded man into someone who’s arrogant and doesn’t respect others. This leads to him being kicked out of the team. He is taken in by his childhood friend Nandani when his father suffered a brain hemorrhage. He promised his father and Nandani to play for the team again. The movie ends with the death of his father and Vijay playing for the team. Nandani and Vijay are also shown to have got together in the end-credit scene.

The movie got its release on 18 December 2009. The budget of the movie was Rs.15 Crore with a box office collection of Rs.16 Lakhs thus making it a box office disaster.
The movie revolved around Ravi and his four friends and teammates. The film deals with cricket and the act of making bets and match-fixing. The underworld people took interest in betting and match-fixing in the world of Cricket. Ravi the captain of the Indian team fixes a match against Pakistan with his four teammates with a known bookie named Sohan. After getting caught all five of them are banned by BCCI for four years from playing cricket. The movie ends with Ravi and his four mates being given another chance to play cricket for the team and they again get the offer to fix a match with Sohan against Pakistan where Ravi refuses the offer. In retaliation to this Sohan kidnaps Ravi’s girlfriend and the involvement of the police takes place. The movie had an unclear ending.
21. Love Marriage

One day just by luck a cricket coach sees Karan playing cricket and is impressed by his skills and gets him to play as an opening batsman for the Indian team with captain Varun. The movie ends with Karan deciding to stop playing cricket for now but rejoin once he gets older. Karan also gets adopted by Varun and his girlfriend who he marries thus fulfilling both of Karan’s dreams.

The film got written by Rohini Patwardhan and starred Sandeep Patil, Sachin Tendulkar, Syed Kirmani, Poonam Dhillon, and Debashree Roy. The movie got its release on 1 March 1985. The film got hyped as two professional cricketers debuted in Bollywood after enjoying the glory of winning the World Cup.
The plot follows Sandeep a famous cricket player who falls for Asha, the daughter of a prominent industrialist who disapproves of this match and wants Asha to marry Shakti a guy he has chosen for her. Asha refuses to marry Shakti and declares she’s going to marry Sandeep and no one else. Due to misunderstandings Asha and Sandeep break up and he moves far away to start a new life as his career came to a halt after Shakti sent his goons to beat Sandeep, as he injures his leg. While away Sandeep falls for another girl named Geeta, they move back to their hometown, where Asha is still unmarried and in love with Sandeep. The movie ends with Asha sacrificing her love after finding out that Sandeep loves Geeta now.

Stumped is a Bollywood cricket drama directed by Gaurav Pandey and produced by Raveena Tandon. The movie starred Alyy Khan, Raveena Tandon with Salman Khan, and Sachin Tendulkar in a cameo role. The movie got distributed by Shemaroo Entertainment and got its release on 11 April 2003. The film wasn’t a great success at the box office.
The plot revolves around Reena and her husband Major Raghav Seth, Ranga Khetrapal, Swadesh Pande, and their respective wives combined with their love of playing and enjoying cricket. Reena experienced isolation after her husband has to return for his duties. She becomes friends with three young guys who have got a crush on her. Things take a turn for the worst after her husband is announced missing and Reena is left heartbroken. The film ends with Reena and her husband's reconciliation as it is later discovered that he miraculously survived.
