What is Hijab?
Hijab is a headscarf or a veil mostly worn by women of the Islamic religion. Hijab is an Arabic word meaning “cover.”
Hijab is commonly associated with women, but sometimes Muslim men also wear a head covering as a means of showing modesty.
According to Islamic teachings, the hijab is not only restricted to the headscarf worn by women. It includes the way a person talks, looks and think.
All of it should be done modestly. It applies not only to women but also to men.
World Hijab Day (WHD)
WHD is an annual event celebrated on the 1st of February, all over the world, in recognition of millions of Muslim women who live a life of modesty and choose to wear the hijab.
World Hijab Day was founded by Nazma Khan in 2013. She wanted to encourage religious tolerance and understanding by inviting women (non-Hijabi Muslims/non-Muslims) to experience the hijab for one day.
Nazma Khan started an organization known as World Hijab Day Organization, Inc. which is a non-profit organization with a mission to respect everyone's choice and belief despite so much of intolerance around.
It's the matter of Respect and Modesty which is part of a Women's Beauty. WHD Organization spreads a message to Stand for Modesty and Empower Humanity. They want every woman to feel free in Hijab.
World Hijab Day Organization is moving to every city day by day to spread awareness by conducting events. They appoint an ambassador from every city who carry forward the message and lead the event.
World Hijab Day (WHD) In Lucknow
World Hijab Day in Lucknow was celebrated every year on 1st February
World Hijab Day took place on the first Sunday of Feb in 2019 at Sheroes Hangout Cafe in Gomtinagar.
It was a great success and more than 250 people gathered to support and uplift the cause.
The event was lead by Anam Haseeb, the Lucknow ambassador of WHD Organization.

The motto of the event was “Stand for Modesty, Empower Humanity.” It included various events like Open Mic- Hijab Draping- Nukkad Natak- Poster Making Competition- Selfie Booth- Music, etc to engage and entertain the audience.
WHD 2019, The competitions were for both male or female. Many children also became a part of it and supported the cause.
A team of 15 volunteers along with counselors, NGO activists, and Lucknow WHD ambassadors made it a successful event. It was organized for the very first time in the city of Nawabs, Lucknow and now, people are eagerly waiting for the next edition of the World Hijab Day celebration.
