Woman Intentionally Run Over and Killed in Houston | Jasmine James

On Thursday, February 24th, 2022, Houston police responded to reports of a crash in the 9700 block of Bissonnet Street around 2 AM. Chiedozie Amadi, 22, was seen by witnesses driving his car into a woman on the sidewalk.

Witnesses say that it appeared that Amadi intentionally hit 26-year-old Jasmine James with his vehicle. Amadi was seen driving the vehicle up over the sidewalk where James was walking. In the process, he hit a utility pole as well as a wrought iron fence.

He was then seen beating the victim with a metal object. It is suspected the object was a piece of the fencing he had driven the sedan into.

Witnesses had captured videos of the latter part of the attack. It shows the man who police have identified as Amadi standing over the victim’s body. He appeared to be holding the metal fence which he used to repeatedly beat the woman as she lay among the debris from the wreck.

When police arrived at the scene, Amadi was found standing over the victim. Jasmine James was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy will later be performed at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine her exact cause of death.

Police are currently unaware of any connection between Amadi and Jasmine James. They do not know the proceedings leading up to the incident.

Chiedozie Amadi was detained at the scene. He admitted to officers his role in the incident and he was subsequently charged with murder in the 338th State District Court. A magistrate set his bail amount at $2,000,000 at the request of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

In the DA’s request for the bail amount, prosecutor Michael Levine wrote, “The repeated and violent nature of this incident indicates that defendant poses a threat to the community and public safety everywhere if released.”

If convicted, Amadi faces up to life in prison.
