One of the basic constituents of electronics is a LED Circuit Board. These can be the simplest to the most complicated printed circuit boards that are designed for a number of applications. Commonly, these begin as printed circuit boards on which light-emitting diodes or LEDs are  mounted. In a given application, the LED circuit board becomes the underlying support to LEDs and keeps heat away from the bulbs.

As a result the bulbs perform better and remain protected from damage. One such application is in panel mount LED indicators used in industrial and food service equipment. Here we explore the basics of LED circuit board and a panel mount LED indicator.

What is an LED Circuit Board?

An LED circuit board is the building block of every lighting system in an application. The LED circuit board is especially made by printing the required design mounting the electrical connections to LEDs.

Technically, there are many easy ways by which LED devices leverage surface-mounted design with a single LED component. For larger lighting, an LED circuit board connecting multiple lights is used. Most electrical equipment use LEDs as a standard source of light.

What is a Panel Mount LED Indicator?

Panel mount LED indicators are small, essential components that can be customized for different applications.  As the name suggests, these indicators need to ‘show’ or indicate a particular functional use. Hence, they are made of high bright colored LED or diffused lens along with a resistor to create a bezel of high quality satin steel/chrome.

The commonest is the 316L grade stainless steel, which makes them ideal for demanding applications like construction and the military. They can also be made water resistant for use in industrial and food service equipment.

Here are some other features of panel mount LED indicators:

  • In some applications, the indicators are adapted to seal a component or as a harness or an illumination of color.

  • They are used in various lens styles and color options.

  • Some indicators use a lock washer and nut for a secure installation.

  • Used as wire leads of various colors and lengths, as well as a variety of termination options.

What are  the advantages of LED Circuits?

The advantages of using LED Circuit Board include:

  • Improve energy efficiency since LEDs are highly energy efficient

  • Have a longer battery life as LEDs' lower output voltage and lower power consumption can extend the battery life of devices.

  • Status indicators as LEDs can indicate if a device is on, off, or in another mode.

  • Weak electric current detection as LEDs can  detect weak electric currents.

What are the uses of a Panel Mount LED Indicator?

LEDs can also function as regular diodes in many circuits.

  • LEDs have positive and negative sides, and need to be connected to a voltage source with the correct side. The positive side is called the anode, and the negative side is called the cathode.

  • A resistor, often called a ballast resistor, can be used to limit the current through the LED and prevent excess current from burning out the LED. If the voltage source is equal to the voltage drop of the LED, no resistor is required

 Conclusion

The use of LED circuit boards in the electronic industry continues to evolve and is the primary driver of this industry. In addition, the use of panel mount LED indicator continues to play a vital role in many applications. Many times, these double as regular diodes as well. In combination with other nano component LEDs deliver highly effective solutions in lighting systems.
