The word Qur'an literally means "the reading" or "the recitation" and refers to the divinely revealed scripture given to Muhammad (PBUH). Because Muhammad (PBUH) is regarded as God's final prophet, the Qur'an is regarded as God's final revelation to humanity that why every Muslim wants to learn the Quran to seek guidance for their life.

Muslims consider the Qur'an to be the literal Speech of God given to Muhammad (PBUH) in Arabic. The chapters and verses of the Qur'an were revealed over the course of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) mission, which lasted nearly twenty-three years, from 610-632 C.E. Contrary to popular belief, Muhammad (PBUH) did not write the Qur'an. Rather, he is regarded as the chosen recipient and transmitter of the revelation, as well as the ideal implementer of its principles and commandments. Hadith are Muhammad's (PBUH) personal sayings or words, which are distinct from the divine origin of the Qur'an's content.

As Qur'anic verses were revealed to Muhammad (PBUH) and later repeated by him to companions and other Muslims, they were written down, recited, and memorized. The Prophet (PBUH) also usually led formal worship five times a day, reciting the revealed verses according to the procedure he established. The verses were also recited aloud by designated Muslims in the early hours of the morning, prior to worship and other important occasions. In short, the Qur'anic verses have always played an immediate and practical role in the spiritual lives of Muslims.

Prior to his death, the Prophet (PBUH) arranged the 114 chapters into the current sequence of the Qur'an. Scholars, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, agree that the Qur'an has survived intact and unchanged to the present day. In this regard, the Qur'an is unique as a scripture.

The Qur'an has been translated into many languages around the world, including English, Spanish, French, German, Urdu, Chinese, Malay, Vietnamese, and others. While translations can be useful as renderings or explanations of the Qur'an, only the original Arabic text is considered to be the Qur'an.
