The newest development at Apple is the creation of its own processors. Apple devices can now work together more seamlessly than ever before, as they’re now combined with top-quality software and hardware.

This new processor is called the M1 chip. It’s the first-ever computer chip made by Apple, designed to power their laptop and desktop line-up. Apple M1 was developed based on a 5-nanometer process technology, first seen on the iPhone 12 series and the 4th generation iPad Air’s A14 CPU. From Intel-made chips, Apple made the switch to their own custom CPU with the vision of providing performance boosts the industry hasn’t seen for quite some time.

What’s the difference between an M1 device and previous Apple models? According to Apple, some improvements under the M1 chip include “up to 3.5x faster CPU performance, up to 6x faster GPU performance, and up to 15x faster machine learning, all while enabling battery life up to 2x longer than previous-generation Macs.”

For the user, these improvements mean you can edit multiple full-quality 4K videos, browse the web wirelessly for up to 15 hours, and enjoy up to 18 hours of video playback. Some devices that already have the M1 chip are the MacBook Air, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and iMac.

The M1 line of these devices is a cut above the rest with the impressive features they hold. However, they can be on the pricey side since they’re some of Apple’s latest releases. The good thing is you don’t have to break the bank to own an M1-powered device. You can purchase refurbished MacBook M1 laptops for less and still enjoy their like-new quality.

To learn more about the M1 chip, this infographic will discuss its history, types, features, and benefits.
