That became especially true after the 2010s, as the network released some of the most impressive series ever seen. That included multiple Emmy winners and absurdly large budgets in some cases. 1) Euphoria

Euphoria is an American teen drama television series created and written by Sam Levinson for HBO loosely based on the Israeli television miniseries of the same name. It follows a group of high school students through their experiences of drugs, friendships, love, identity, and trauma. It premiered on June 16, 2019. In July 2019 the series was renewed for a second season, preceded by two one-hour specials broadcast. It received nominations for the British Academy Television Award for Best International Programme and the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama.
2) Boardwalk Empire
Next, up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows, we have Boardwalk Empire an American period crime drama television series created by Terence Winter. The series is set during the Prohibition era of the 1920s. The protagonist Nucky, interacts with historical characters in both his personal and political life, including mobsters politicians, government agents, and the common folk who look up to him. The series premiered on September 19, 2010. The series received 57 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including two for Outstanding Drama Series, Winning 20.
3) Big Little Lies
Next up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows we have Big Little Lies an American drama television series based on the 2014 novel of the same name. The series weaves a darkly comedic tale of murder and mischief in the tranquil beachfront town of Monterey, California. It is told through the eyes of three mothers Madeline, Celeste, And Jane. The series premiered on HBO on February 19 2017 and concluded on July 21, 2019. Its first season received 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won eight.
4) Silicon Valley
Next, up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows, we have Silicon Valley an American comedy television series created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler, and Dave Krinsky. The series focuses on Richard Hendricks a programmer who is trying to maintain his company while facing competition from larger entities. It premiered on HBO on April 6, 2014, running for a total of six seasons of 53 episodes. The series finale aired on December 8, 2019. The show has been nominated for numerous accolades, including five consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations for the Outstanding Comedy Series.
5) The Newsroom
Next, up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows, we have The Newsroom an American political drama, television series created and principally written by Aaron Sorkin. The series is set behind the scenes at the fictional Atlantis Cable News ( ACN ). The series premiered on HBO on June 24 2012 and concluded on December 14, 2014. The series received positive reviews from critics.
6) Westworld
Next up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows, we have Westworld an American dystopian science fiction television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. It is based on the 1973 film of the same name. The story begins in Westworld, a fictional technologically advanced Wild-West-themed, amusement park populated by android hosts. The series was broadcast between October 2nd and December 4 2016 on HBO. Westworld has received numerous accolades winning 9 Primetime Emmy Awards out of 54 nominations.
7) Succession
Next, up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows, we have Succession an American satirical drama Television series created by Jesse Armstrong. The series centers on the Roy family, the dysfunctional owners of Waystar RoyCo, a global media and entertainment conglomerate who are fighting for control of the company amid uncertainty about the health of the family’s patriarch Logan Roy. It premiered on June 3rd, 2018 on HBO. Cox, received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama, while Strong won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
8) True Detective
Next up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows we have True Detective an American crime drama television series created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. Each season of the series is structured as a self-contained narrative employing new cast ensembles and following various sets of characters and settings. The series premiered on January 12, 2014. The first season received acclaim from critics and earned high ratings for HBO. It was nominated for and won numerous awards and other accolades.
9) Chernobyl
Next up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows we have Chernobyl a 2019 historical drama, television miniseries that revolves around the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 and the cleanup efforts that followed. The series depicts some of the lesser-known stories of the disaster, including the efforts of the firefighters who were the first responders on the scene, Volunteers, and teams of miners who dug a critical tunnel under Reactor 4. The series premiered in the United States on May 6 2019 on HBO. It was widely praised by critics.
10) Game of Thrones
Next up on our list of Best HBO TV Shows, we have Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire. Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families. It premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards and many more.
