Tired or lonely, with family or alone, if there is one show we loved and still love, it is Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma.

Comedy, fun, and “Masala”, but without the negativity of “Saas, Bahu and Saajis.”

Laughter, enjoyment and refreshment without violence, conspiracies and never ending emotional drama.

A reflection of a multicultural society, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma has been a show loved by audience across all age groups for its simplicity and relentless fun.

It is a show that depicts small, but realistic and important events in a common man’s life.  Interestingly, it is one the few shows that celebrates so many roles together. The roles of a teacher, father, son, daughter, grandparent, friend, and much more.

Bored but not busy, I thought doing a character sketch of these lively characters would not only help me revisit the fun, old days of my teenage, but it would also be a great opportunity to once again cherish a time when everyone in the society was an uncle, aunt, brother or sister.

Like the societies we live in, every character in Tmkoc is unique and interesting in their own aspects.

Apart from the families, the singles in the Tmkoc are also fascinating in their own aspect.

1.       Abdul

Abdul is an inseparable member of the Gokuldham society. His lemon-chilled soda is the secret sauce that rejuvenates the whole “Purus Mandali” of the society.

It is Abdul’s soda shop where the male members get together to chit chat, relax, crack jokes and refresh themselves from the day’s hard work and “Magajmari”.

The show portrays Abdul as a friendly, hardworking and honest member of the Gokuldham society. The show depicts him as a large-hearted shopkeeper of a small soda shop, who leads a life of dignity earning respect and admiration of everyone.

Days at Gokuldham are never complete without Abdul’s chilling soda!

2.       Popatlal

The most eligible bachelor in the Gokuldham society. “Patrakaar” Popatlal is depicted in the show as someone who is always worried about his marriage.

On a funny note, there are three things he loves the most: setting up his profile on matrimonial sites for his “Ristha”, his “Chaata” or umbrella, and poking his nose in other people’s affair.

He is a responsible member of the society, who emphasizes on the power of his pen to fight against the injustices and crimes prevalent in the society.

He is the “Bhai” of all the ladies of Gokuldham, and the uncle of the kids, who is desperately waiting to the father of his own kids!

3.       Bagha Boy

The series portrays Bagha as a hard-working and sincere employee, who loves asking Jethalal when he is going to raise Bagha’s salary.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any episode where Bagha’s this dream turns into a reality.

The show is full of episodes where we see Bagha suggesting weird, out-of-the-box ideas to Jethalal to increase the sales at Gada electronics.

Equally interesting is the novice, innocent love between Bagha and Baghi, Bagha’s arrays of excuses to meet her, and Jethalal’s funny reactions.

The show presents Bagha as a dedicated, simple and loyal employee at Gada electronics, who loves to annoy as well as impress Jethalal.

He is funny, hardworking, weird and simple, all at the same time.

4.       Sudarlaal

Bhagwan kisi ko bhi Sundar jesa sala na de.

This is how Jethalal, Sundarlaal’s beloved Jeejaji feels about him.

Sundar, who loves outsmarting Jethalal has another hobby: coming up with new schemes and ideas.

Unfortunately, most of these schemes fail and bring trouble to Jethalal. Sudarlaal is the source of unending fun and trouble for Jethalal.

The duo share a fascinating “Jeejaji-Sala” relationship full of fun, “masala”, and “Masti”.

Sudarlaal, on the other hand, is a caring brother, who loves his “NaatKaat” bhanja: Tappu

5.       Nattu Kaka

Nattu Kaka is another iconic character of the show.  Old but young, he loves helping his boss Jethalal in all most all affairs of Gada electronics.

A man of his own color, Nattu Kaka despite being old has a young heart. He loves merry making, dancing, and rejoicing on his favorite delicacies from the “Padmawati Bhojanalaya”.

He, sometimes, annoys Jethalal, but the duo shares a long relationship of trust and respect.

The show depicts Nattu Kaka as a loyal and trustworthy employee, whom Jethalal considers a part of the family.
