The Boys Season 3 Finale Review

To say that this season of The Boys was a well thought out and executed 8 episode journey of humor, disgust, and so much more would be a huge understatement. This season took The Boys to the next level, and one that we didn’t know we needed.

The finale of the season gave each character a moment, whether it left them in a good or bad state by the end of the episode.

To start off, the moment that Homelander shared with Noir when he revealed to him that he knew all along that Soldier Boy was his father was very heartbreaking, since Homelander has to kill him afterwards for being lied to his entire life by someone he thought he could trust.

It was very sad to see Noir exit the show instantaneously after we just learned a little more about him in the last episode, and we should have at least got a rematch between him and Soldier Boy first, after we saw in the last episode the beef they had with each other.

Speaking of Solider Boy, in this episode he proved to be an overpowered, unstoppable tank of a supe, as he was just bodying everyone that stood in his way, especially Butcher.

Butcher vs Soldier Boy was very intense, as Soldier Boy could not care less about if he kills Ryan or not, and him wondering why he changed his mind after all this time.

This was just one of the few crazy moments that happened to Butcher in the episode, between him finding out that all the Temp-V he had been injecting up until this point is killing him, and he only has a few months left to live. As well as him being unable to keep his promise to Becca by the end of the episode.

How Butcher protected Hughie from taking more Temp-V, and how it played out through the entire episode was just as Hughie described it “the shittiest way you could have saved me”. Seeing Butcher care about Hughie that way after having their relationship very up and down after all this time throughout the series was very heartwarming.

By the end however, when Hughie sees that his friends are in trouble while fighting Soldier Boy, he ponders whether or not he should inject the V to save them. He ultimately decides to give Starlight a crazy power boost by enhancing the lights in the studio, and that was the more heroic decision Hughie could have made than ever taking the V.

With M.M., Frenchie, and Kimiko having the vapor that could knock out Solider Boy (I forgot the name of the vapor), it would give them an opportunity to strike since they all want revenge on Soldier Boy at this point, exclusively M.M.

I also loved the way Kimiko was able to welcome back her powers in a fun way with that hilarious action/dance sequence when her and Frenchie went into the lab of Vought, and just started killing all the guards that stood in her path.

Homelander vs Queen Maeve was just amazing, as we finally get to see Maeves hatred for Homelander on full display. Sure Maeve lost an eye in the process, but her “sacrifice” made it to be so real that she believes her and her girlfriend can finally escape Homelander once and for all and live happily ever after together.

With Ryan finally choosing the side of his father Homelander, Butcher failed to keep his promise to his late wife Becca, as now; the more Ryan is under the influence of and hanging out around Homelander, the more he will start to act like him, and desensitize himself to the humans that care about him, just like Homelander.

The ending with it being announced that Victora Newman is running for Vice President after The Deep was instructed by Homelander to kill the current candidate was surprising, and puts The Boys in trouble, since she can explode heads, and will most likely do that to the president to take his position and be unstoppable.

I loved the ending to season 3, and the season in general. It started off with a different tone that still worked for the show thanks to the characters, but of course it had to take a drastic turn back to its true form with Hughie getting covered by someone else’s blood in episode 2.

I am looking forward to season 4 very mpatiently, and with a lot of anticipation of what is to come next.
