The T20 World Cup is a championship organized by ICC ( International Cricket Council )and was held for the first time in 2007. The T20 World Cup takes place after every two years but the World Cup to be held in 2020 was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19.

This tournament consists of 16 teams including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, New Guinea, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.

The most successful team in T20 World Cup is West Indians with Mahela Jayawardene is the player with the most runs and Shakib Al Hasan with the most wickets.

Here are all the T20 World Cup Winners:

1.India(2007)

Venue: South Africa

India was the first team to win the T20 World Cup title in 2007. The Indian the squad consisted of MS Dhoni (Captain), Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, R.P. Singh, Joginder Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Sreesanth and Piyush Chawla.

India defeated Pakistan to win the first T20 World Cup title. Shahid Afridi won the Player of the Series award. Matthew Hayden was the top run-scorer and Umar Gul was the highest wicket-taker for the series.

 

2.Pakistan(2009)

Venue: England

The second T20 World Cup was won by Pakistan in the year 2009. The Pakistan team consisted of Younis Khan (Captain), Abdul Razzaq, Ahmed Shehzad, Fawad Alam, Iftikhar Anjum, Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Amir, Saeed Ajmal, Salman Butt, Shahid Afridi, Shahzaib Hasan, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gull, Shoaib Akhtar and Yasir Arafat.

Pakistan won against Sri Lanka and lifted the T20 World Cup title. Tillakaratne Dilshan won the Player of the Series award and he was also the top run-scorer of the series. Umar was the highest wicket-taker for the second consecutive year.

3. England(2010)

Venue: West Indies

The next T20 World Cup took place in the year 2010 without a two-year gap because ICC has scrapped the ICC Champions Trophy. England won T20 World Cup this year. The England team for this T20 World Cup was Paul Collingwood (Captain), James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Craig Kieswetter, Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Ajmal Shahzad, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, James Tredwell, Luke Wright, and Michael Yardy.

The runner-up team for the 2010 T20 World Cup was Australia. For this season Kevin Pietersen was the Player of the Series, Mahela Jayawardene was a top run-scorer and Dirk Nannes was the highest wicket-taker.

4. West Indies(2012)

Venue: Sri Lanka

West Indies won the T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka in 2012. The West Indies squad consisted of Samuel Badree, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Johnson Charles, Fidel Edwards, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy (capt), Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith.

Shane Watson won Player of the Series and was also the top run-scorer and Ajantha Mendis was the highest wicket-taker.

5. Sri Lanka(2014)

Venue: Bangladesh

Sri Lanka was the winner of 2014 T20 World Cup. The Sri Lanka team consisted of Dinesh Chandimal(Captain), Lasith Malinga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Rangana Herath, Mahela Jayawardene, Nuwan Kulasekara, Suranga Lakmal, Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis, Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera, Seekkugen Prasanna, Kumar Sangakkara, Sachithra Senanayake and Lahiru Thirimanne.

Virat Kohli was the Player of the Series and the top run-scorer for the year 2014 and Ahsan Malik and Imran Tahir were the highest wicket-taker.

6. West Indies(2016)

Venue: India

West Indies won the T20 World Cup title for the second time in 2016 with the team Daren Sammy(Captain), Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn, Carlos Brathwaite, Dwayne Bravo, Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Denesh Ramdin, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Jerome Taylor, Darren Bravo, Andre Fletcher, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard.

Virat Kohli was the Player of the Series, Tamim Iqbal was a top run-scorer and Mohammad Nabi was the highest wicket-taker.

7.Australia(2021)

Venue: Oman&UAE

The Australian team with Aaron Finch (Captain), David Warner, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Josh Inglis, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Kane Richardson, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Swepson, Dan Christian, Daniel Sams and Nathan Ellis won T20 World Cup in 2021.

New Zealand was the runners-up team, Babar Azam was the top run-scorer and Wanindu Hasaranga was the highest wicket-taker.

The next ICC T20 World Cup will begin on 16 October 2022 and will end on 13 November 2022 with 16 teams again fighting for the T20 World Cup title. Australia will be the host for this season.
