Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja have barely been off the trending list for the past couple of weeks. Reason being public to all. After a long “will they-won't they”, they both had been keeping media guessing for months.
Mystery Behind The Wedding
In January, the first few confirmations about Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s wedding conveyed that the lovebirds would be tying the knot in Jodhpur in Rajasthan. It was reported that the event would be a small gathering of only around 20-30 people. The destination was then shifted to Udaipur.
For a while, it was also reported that Sonam was getting hitched in June. There were speculations that she will walk down the aisle in some exotic venue in Switzerland. But the venue was then changed owing to logistics reasons.
Relief flushed when the Kapoor and Ahuja families confirmed the long-awaited speculation on an official level early this week.
"The Kapoor and Ahuja families, take great joy and pride, in announcing the marriage of Sonam and Anand. The wedding will take place on the 8th of May in Mumbai. Since it is an intimate affair, we request you to respect the family's need for privacy. Thank you for all your blessings and love, as we celebrate this special moment in our lives," read the statement.
Know Sonam Kapoor’s Prince Charming
This wedding between fashionista Sonam Kapoor and his long-time beau also the owner of fashion label Bhane, Anand Ahuja has undoubtedly been the most awaited wedding of 2018.
Anand Ahuja, 32, is a Delhi-based fashion entrepreneur who started India's first multi-brand sneaker boutique, VegNonVeg. Anand is believed to have grown up in Delhi's posh Jor Bagh neighbourhood.
Economic Times reported three years ago that Harish Ahuja had bought a bungalow worth Rs.173 crore on the elite Prithviraj Road. The duo has often been spotted together for the past couple of years and are frequently seen showered love and praises on each other on social media.
Now as the two decided to proceed further and tie themselves by the seven oaths, the fans couldn't be happier.
The Sonam Anand Wedding Celebration
So, the big day finally arrived, and a picture of the duo engrossed in wedding rituals was surfaced over the internet early morning. Sister Rhea Kapoor took Instagram to share the very first picture of married Sonam Kapoor Ahuja.
Sonam Kapoor wore a fabulous lehenga festooned with a spectacular choker and a necklace along with matching mathapatti and jhumkis. The actor looked ravishing in an all-red traditional ensemble designed by Anuradha Vakil who has also made Kapoor's pastel Mehendi outfit.
The Mehendi ceremony was held at Anil Kapoor's pad in Mumbai on the 6th eve while the wedding ceremony was held on Tuesday morning at Sonam's aunt Kavita Singh's heritage bungalow Rockdale in Bandra.
While many people were expecting Sonam to snub the traditional wedding attire and opt for something unconventional, the actor surprised everyone by choosing just the conventional getup and managed to leave everyone spellbound.
Anand Ahuja complemented her in a gold sherwani with a ruby red mala. The groom, a Delhi-based businessman, too looked dapper in a Raghavendra Rathore creation, a beige sherwani. He paired his sherwani with a beige and cream saafa along with pearl and ruby strings.
The couple took vows in the traditional Sikh ceremony and the wedding was followed by a lavish lunch. The families hosted an opulent reception on the night of 8th at a 5-star hotel in Andheri. The reception had all the Bollywoodwallahs on the list.
Chemistry Went Viral
What made these events even more special is the couple’s chemistry and how they were so effortlessly comfortable in each other’s presence. We could tell that they really adore each other and for that, we cannot help but bless them with all our hearts!
The hashtag #SonamAnandWedding went viral early in the morning and was tweeted upon heavily for the day. Pastry chef Pooja Dhingra was hired to custom design a moreish cake for the wedding.
The place was closely guarded, and the bride was covered with curtains. Media has not let a glance of the bride when she arrived at the venue. The fans of the actress were curious, so they arranged to get a sneak peek earlier via inside photographs and video snippets.
However official photos of the bride in her bridal avatar were released much later. Sonam made her bridal entry with her brothers in typical traditional fashion.
Everyone Who Went Gaga Over The Wedding
Karan Johar apparently was overexcited too and performed on a song from one of the Sonam Kapoor’s movies Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
A Bollywood celebrities assemblage including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Sonam's colleagues Swara Bhasker and Kareena Kapoor and her best friend Jacqueline Fernandez attended the Anand Karaj ceremony in the morning along with the family members.
The guest list for the wedding read like a who's who of Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan was accompanied by his son and daughter Abhishek and Shweta.
Kareena Kapoor, who co-stars with Sonam in upcoming film Veere Di Wedding, accompanied her husband Saif Ali Khan and son Taimur. Kareena's sister Karisma, dressed in a Sabyasachi lehenga, did not bring her kids along.
Aamir Khan came with wife Kiran Rao and son Junaid Khan.
Rani Mukerji, who has been invited to all wedding functions, wore a Sabyasachi lehenga in black, gold and green.
Sonam's cousins Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor came with their father Boney Kapoor. Janhvi wore an embellished pink lehenga with a pastel dupatta while Khushi picked a yellow mirror work outfit - both by Manish Malhotra.
After the wedding, Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja will reportedly shuttle between multiple cities. "Anand owns homes in Delhi and London, and Mumbai is Sonam's base," a source told Mumbai Mirror.
The honeymoon has been deferred for a few months - Sonam is scheduled to attend the Cannes Film Festival later this week and has her new film, Veere Di Wedding, releasing in June.
