Sindhutai Sapkal, a 70-year-old lady from Pune, India, is popularly known as the “Mother of Orphans”. She has adopted and nurtured over 1400 children till date.
She is a woman with incredible grit and bravery, devoting over 40 years in raising these orphaned children, through her 5 orphanages. Out of these, 2 orphanages are for girls, 2 are for boys, and the last one is for sheltering cows.
Behind The Curtains
Sindhutai Sapkal, bringing up a total of 1400 child, 175 of which are cows, is not at all a rich woman. She, being an unwanted child was the victim of child marriage. She was forced to marry a man aged 30 when she was just 10 years old.
The troubles didn’t end here. She gave birth to three sons at an age of 20. Furthermore, she was abandoned by her husband when she was nine months pregnant. Adversities has been her sweet companion.
Extended Struggle In Life
The brave lady, who became the reason for feeding 1400 children, was once in a situation of extreme poverty. After being abandoned by her husband gave birth to her daughter on barns by herself, cutting the umbilical cord with a sharp-edged stone.
She survived by singing and begging in trains. She begged on streets to feed every orphan she saw on the streets. Can anyone imagine that this heroic lady, who is strongly standing and emerging out to be a great mother, has suffered so much hardships in past?
Achievements Of Sindhutai Sapkal
Sindhutai Sapkal, has inspired us in various aspects of life. She has been honored with 750 awards. She considers each member as a part of her very big family and also, educates them to make them future ready.
She has actually shaped the future of these orphans, with many of them being doctors, lawyers and engineers today. This is the biggest achievement anybody can have in life. She has four children of her own but she shares a loving bond with all her 1400 children equally.
