Before knowing about the spectacular creation of the ’13 ft 1.08 inch’ long Ukulele and its existence among the various incredible Guinness World Records, let us delve into knowing about the Ukulele.

Knowing The Ukulele

It’s an alluring small guitar-like instrument, which originated in the 19th century. It is the largest type of instrument in Contrabass, a musical instrument of very low pitch. With a typical length of 32 inch only, the Ukulele is a treat to the ears. It is usually a very small and light instrument, but Lawrence Stamp of USA has transformed it into a giant creation.

Creation Of Largest Ukulele

The Ukulele created by Lawrence Stamp is the largest ever, with an extraordinary length of 3.99 m (13 feet 1.08 inch). This jumbo-sized instrument is skillfully made by hand, and is the largest tunable, playable Ukulele. The whopping Ukulele was verified on 11th December 2015, breaking into the Guinness World Records.

Highlights Of Largest Ukulele

The body of instrument is constructed from birch plywood while the neck and head are of pine, with all four tuning pegs. With the fret spacing required to produce notes, separated by a semitone, it has the most appropriate structure.

This instrument was built using the same methods and material, as standard size Soprano Ukulele, but in an incredibly large size. The Ukulele by Lawrence is 7.5 times larger than the Soprano Ukulele.

Presentation Of Largest Ukulele

This huge Ukulele is not only an eye-soothing creation, but also a tuneful instrument to hear. It was a joyful experience for Lawrence Stamp to present his creation for the first time at an event in a music store in Lansing, Michigan.

It was presented here only when this instrument was verified, subject to the strict rules of the title. And astonishingly, this largest Ukulele of Lawrence Stamp broke the previous record of largest Ukulele of 2.27 m, created by Xuri Musical Instrument Co. Ltd of China.

True Inspiration Leads To Creation

Behind every innovative creation, there is an essence of inspiration, which is also applicable to Lawrence Stamp’s Ukulele creation. He got this inspirational idea from his 15 years old son, while he was helping his son in the making of the regular size Ukulele for his School Science project.

Words From Lawrence Stamp

Lawrence Stamp says, “It was fun to built this Ukulele but I faced many difficulties.” It took approximately 3 months for him to create the largest Ukulele of the world and the cost came near about $600. It was a proud moment for Lawrence when he presented it at the concert! Wish even we could have a glance over it!
