Chanda Kochhar, the CEO and Managing Director of ICICI Bank is one amongst the most powerful women of the world. She leads ICICI Bank, which stands among the Big Four Banks of India and is the only privately-owned bank in India to pitch a place among State owned ones (State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank).
ICICI Bank has evolved from a Corporate Bank to a Retail Bank, and now it has become a global Bank. The credit to this progress goes to Chanda Kochhar, who accepted every challenge as a new opportunity.
Her Inspiration
Kochhar’s mother was her role model. She helped her in building tenacity and willpower. As she belongs to a Sindhi family, a Hindu group who lost their land and property when fled from Pakistan to India in the bloody Partition of 1947, their family suffered a lot.
Her mother worked as a designer in a textile industry after the death of Kochhar's father. She was just 13 when she lost her father. Seeing her mother’s diligence, Chanda Kochhar got inspired to do something exceptional.
Her Personal Life
She may look calm and composed, but Chanda Kochhar does have her life. She spends time with herself, watching the latest released Bollywood movie. She married her schoolmate, Deepak Kochhar and is blessed with two children (Arjun and Aarti).
She is used to throwing uncanny ideas and innovation at the workplace. She even runs doggedly to execute her ideas and that is the reason for her success.
Her Professional Life
Chanda Kochhar stated, “Plan better, be organised. I chose to be a working wife and mother. Why should I compromise on either?”
It is not easy to manage the home and office. But it’s not impossible either. Chand Kochhar manages her household synchronously with the office. This boasts of her magnificent management skills.
Her Views on Success
“The most successful business person is the one who holds onto the old just as long as it is good, and grabs the new just as soon as it is better.”

She has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest Civilian Awards, in the year 2011 and today, she is one amongst the most powerful women of the world.
