It takes a lot of courage, patience, and tolerance, besides dedication and selflessness to come forward and do something for society. You have to give, give and give, expecting nothing but satisfaction and respect in return.

Believing that the path that leads to a noble cause must be followed, no matter how tough it is, Somnath Kashyap, a young Indian, began teaching kids in the slums opposite to Ajanta Hospital, Lucknow.

These kids, belonging to the BPL (below poverty line) families, were underprivileged and had no access to education of any kind. The initial number of kids gaining education was 4, but with time, Somnath had around 20 students.

Their lives saw some changes when Somnath knocked on their doors and shared a book with them.

Somnath was brave enough to work for what he believed in - doing selfless social service for the nation. After the slums of Ajanta Hospital, he walked into the slums opposite to Nexa showroom and collected around 150 students to teach.

Soon, he was joined by others. The team of selfless youngsters grew from one to two. Then three. And then four. When the total strength crossed 10, Somnath and his team, laid down the foundation of ‘Badlav - Ek Kadam Shiksha Ki Ore’, choosing October 2nd (Gandhi Jayanti) as their Foundation Day.

‘Badlav - Ek Kadam Shiksha Ki Ore’ brought big small changes in the lives of kids.

They prepared the underprivileged kids for school by giving them elementary education. They also conducted skill development programmes for the kids who didn’t knew what art, culture, sports, and literature are.

Once the kids were trained and prepared, the team of ‘Badlav - Ek Kadam Shiksha Ki Ore’ got them admitted to schools. The fees and expenses of these 150-200 kids going to school are borne by the ‘Badlav - Ek Kadam Shiksha Ki Ore’ organization only.

Having brought the lives of 200 kids on track, the team of Badlav was sure that they were doing some great work. They expanded their selfless social service to the slums of Bara Birwa and RDSO. But it was never easy to convince the parents of these kids.

Winning the trust of the parents of these underprivileged kids was tough.

The BPL families in these slums were not ready to believe that anyone could help them because many people have given them fake promises in the past. They had to spend a lot of time in the slums, with the families, to carry out their social service. The team of ‘Badlav - Ek Kadam Shiksha Ki Ore’, with their constant efforts convinced them.

All this, and other troubles, never constrained them.

Badlav team members also began collecting excess food from hotels, weddings, and parties and gave them to the needy. They became angels for people who have nothing to eat.

Badlav team members also distribute clothes, toys, books, and sweets in the slums as and when required. They make the kids realize the value of education and facilities through this.

Badlav team members also celebrate festivals in slums, with great zeal and enthusiasm, to spread happiness. They bring life to festivals, which people there would have never celebrated.

If you respect their selfless social service, you must be part of ‘Badlav’.

There is only one condition to be part of ‘Badlav’. You have to do selfless social service, without expecting anything in return. If you want to do something for the society, you must do it, without waiting for anyone else or worrying about your capacity.

You have to oppose every kind of show off when it comes to social work. You have to be selfless.
