If you are a computer tech person, you must be well aware of the term Open-Source; meaning that the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified.
Open source software is one which is developed by public collaboration. Yet, the power of open source technology is unknown to most of us.
UPES Dehradun students, hailing from the School of Computer Science, have formed a community named OPEN – Open-source Practices to Educate Nation.
The aim of OPEN community is clear from the name itself. It wants to further emphasize, utilize and enhance the open source technologies.
Upcoming Mobile App Innovation Challenge
The OPEN community, in association with The Linux Foundation, presents Mobile App Innovation Challenge (MiC) – a national level mobile app coding competition.
The MiC registrations start from 18th February through their official website. The first round of the Mobile App Innovation Challenge is free of cost and online. The further rounds will be conducted at UPES, Dehradun.
With this event, the OPEN community wishes to provide an impetus to Open Source Technology Practices in our University, State and entire nation at large. The young talents across the country are invited to demonstrate their skills for designing mobile apps that may be useful for the betterment of society.
Themes For Innovation In Mobile Technologies
The Mobile App Innovation Challenge (MiC) - National Level Mobile App Coding Competition has three themes – Digital Society, Healthy ‘U’ & Educational Excellence.
1. DIGITAL SOCIETY (Sustainable growth in society)
Design and deploy digital technologies to increase social welfare and achieve sustainable growth of society. It can help people save time and money and to become more efficient. The app should take people closer to Digital India.
2. HEALTHY ‘U’ (Human in natural ecosystems)
Develop interdisciplinary collaborations to improve well-being for humans and natural ecosystems. Your idea should focus on areas dealing with nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, or other factors.
3. EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE (Learning by sharing)
Develop ideas in the form of mobile applications to help learners to find and connect with subject matter experts, study groups/buddies, tutors, and other associated resources. As education is an important aspect of nation building, we need to enhance it every day.
Categories For Mobile App Innovation Challenge
The national level mobile app development competition will be held in the following two Categories:
Category 1 - Students of higher education (including universities, colleges, polytechnics, undergraduate, or postgraduate degrees of all disciplines)
Category 2 - Students of Senior Secondary (11th & 12th Class Students)
You can register in either of the categories, whichever applies to you.
Cash Prizes & Perks Of Mobile App Innovation Challenge
MiC comes with cash prizes & perks.
First, a total of INR 15 lacs will be distributed among the Winners and Runner-up teams of MiC.
Second, they will be provided certificates from the OPEN community of UPES, Dehradun.
Third, the Winners and Runners-up of MiC will also get an offer for internship/training in the relevant industry/university.
Fourth, they may win courses worth INR 11 lacs from Linux Foundations for Winners and Runner-up teams.
Fifth, they may win prizes worth INR 1 lac for Winners and Runner-up teams from UPES.
Sixth, they may win attractive Prizes from Xebia.
And Seventh, the top 10 Teams from Category-2 will get Training & Certification (worth INR 3 lacs ) from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun, UK, along with attractive prizes.
