Despite being a British slave India had created its history and victory and after getting freedom also Indians proved themselves in different fields and created an amazing chapter of victorious glory. India has left a significant impact on Olympics since its participation in the year the 1900s. India had participated with only one participant Norman Pritchard in Paris Olympics and this is how India’s Olympics journey started. After that, there are so many moments of victory that cherish us every single time we recall them. The Indian Olympics journey is memorable for all the Indians and there are so many movies and biographies that inspire us and make us live those moments once again.

India has won so many medals to date and is already being prepared to win many others. Here I have listed all the glorious wins of India in the Olympics, so have a look over these-

1. 1900

The very first year of India in the Olympics in Paris, and the year in which India has made a significant win in athletics. Norman Pritchard has become the first Asian to win a medal in Olympics. He won two silver medals at this event.

2. 1928

After the first win in Olympics India has participated so many times but didn’t make any wins till 1928. In 1928 Indian men's hockey team participated in the Olympics in Amsterdam and won the very first gold medal.

3. 1932

In this year Olympics was held in Los Angeles and India participated. Indian men's hockey team again won the gold medal beating the USA in the hockey match. It was their consecutive win after winning the first gold medal in the year 1928.

4. 1936

Another consecutive win of India in the Olympics held in Berlin, Germany. With this win, India has defeated Germany in its home hockey match under the captaincy of the magician of Hockey, Major Dhyan Chand, and brought a gold medal home.

5. 1948

Held in London, the Olympics of 1948 has become memorable for India as India participated as an independent nation first time. Another consecutive gold in the men's hockey by defeating the British team.

6. 1952

This year Olympics was held in Finland and India once again participated. India won two medals this time one consecutive gold in Indian men's hockey and one bronze medal in wrestling by Khashaba Jadhav. This bronze was India’s first bronze and an individual medal also.

7. 1956

Another win of India in men's hockey took place in Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. This year India won gold on the Hockey field under the guidance of Waryam Singh.

8. 1960

In this year Olympics was organized in Rome, Italy and once again India participated in the men's hockey field but this time India won its first Silver medal. This is the time when India has proved its excellence in hockey and the world started knowing that it is quite impossible to defeat India in Hockey.

9. 1964

This time Olympics took place in Tokyo, Japan, and again a gold came home with the Indian hockey team under the captaincy of Charanjit Singh.

10. 1968

This year India won its first bronze medal on the men's hockey field in the Olympics held in Mexico. The captain of the Hockey team was Ajit Pal Singh and he brilliantly did his job to achieve the victory.

11. 1972

This time Olympics was held in Munich, Germany. Another Bronze was named down for the Indian men's hockey team under the captaincy of Harmik Singh by defeating the Netherland team.

12. 1980

Another gold came home from the Olympics, Moscow with the Indian men's hockey team under the captaincy of Vasudevan Baskaran. The Indian team beat the team Spain on the hockey field and won the gold medal.

13. 1996

After failing in grabbing any medal for the consecutive 4 years India came back to track in 1996’s Olympics in Atlanta by winning a bronze medal in the Men’s tennis. Leander Paes was the only Indian individual to win the Olympic medal in tennis.

14. 2000

This is the year when the first Indian woman won an Olympics medal. Karenam Malleswari was the only woman who brought a bronze medal to India in weightlifting. Olympics was held in Sydney in 2000.

15. 2004

Olympics 2004 was held in Athens, Greece and India have won its very first medal in shooting. It was India’s fourth individual medal and it was won by Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in the shooting.

16. 2008

In 2008 Olympics took place in Beijing. This year India won 3 medals, 1 gold medal by Abhinav Bindra in air rifle, 1 bronze medal by Sushil Kumar in wrestling, and another bronze medal by Vijendra Singh in boxing.

17. 2012

Olympics, London was really good for India as India won 6 medals this year. The bronze medalist Sushil Kumar this time got succeeded in achieving a silver medal in men's wrestling. 1 silver medal was won by Vijay Kumar and 1 bronze medal was won by Gagan Narang in the shooting. 1 bronze medal was won by Saina Nehwal in badminton and 1 bronze was won by Mary Kom in boxing.

18. 2016

Held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil this Olympics was also good for India as India won 2 medals only by females this time. The silver medal was won by PV Sindhu in Badminton and the Bronze medal was won by Sakshi Mallik in wrestling. Following that Sakshi became the very first Olympic medalist to win in female wrestling.

19. 2020

Scheduled to be held in 2020, this time Olympics, Tokyo got postponed due to the Covid pandemic but the enthusiasm of the players was as high as before. So it was the best year for India in the history of the Olympics. India has won a total of 7 medals this year. Neeraj Chopra has won India’s very first gold in athletics in the men’s Javelin throw. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has won India’s first silver medal in weightlifting. Along with that Ravi, Kumar Dahiya has won another silver in 2021 in wrestling. 1 bronze had won by PV Sindhu in badminton, 1 bronze had won by Lovlina Borgohain in boxing, 1 bronze had won by the men’s hockey team and 1 bronze had won by Bajrang Punia in wrestling.

India’s history in the Olympics is not then a roller coaster. We have seen so many highs and lows in the performance of India since it participated in the Olympics. Till now India has won a total of 35 medals; 10 Gold, 9 Silver, and 16 Bronze but the journey has not been over yet. We are heartily hoping for India’s brilliant performance in the upcoming Olympics.
